hi there, one is asked to give an outline of listening habits and the kit used, so here goes.
I'd like to try to catch up with where home audio is now given that I'm a bit at sea with the use of computers / DACs / streaming/ home servers & so on with Hi fi kit. Until recently I'd not bought a HiFi magazine for 20 or so years or looked at the many Audiophile webs sites, I've now found both printed matter and web sites great to glean information and opinions, some useful even. :)
The set up is a Quad, a 44 pre amp, 306 Amp, FM4 with a Linn Axis turntable, Basik arm, Goldring 1006. There is an old Sony CD player and a pair of Rogers LS3/5A speakers. All were bought new in the mid 1980s and have given good service. The Quad kit was recently serviced at Huntingdon to repair the FM4 (failed light & tuning) & to look over the Amp & Pre Amp. Quad service people are such a nice team and not too costly in my opinion. Huntingdon is cold in December when the Cromwell Museum is closed, nice cafe's though.
My listening is to both my old Vinyl and CDs with the Mac being used a 'juke box' as well. The music played is a mix of Classical (Heydn, Handel, Schubert, Mahler, Beethoven & so on) with modern Country / Folk / electric Blues / Jazz / Rock.
In the years not only did my Quad set up deteriorate - now back to where it was, thanks Quad - but the old ears could do with repair - no service there I feel.
anyway thats the welcome piece, many thanks for an interesting site.
best wishes, Huw

Nice intro Huw. Welcome aboard.... Nowt wrong with the kit anyways, and same can be said, imo about your listening tastes. I am into Country / Folk / electric Blues / Jazz etc myself.
Any questions, just open a Thread in the appropriate section(black canvas or even the digital section if it is dig specific) and you'll get plenty advice.

Cheers Grant.

Hello Huw. Welcome to AOS.

Interesting collection of HiFi. Perhaps you'd like to add a few photos to our Gallery section.

I'm not actually sure you have to "catch up with where home audio is now". Many of us use gear older than yours (me included).

Tell us what you have in mind. I'm assuming you are considering some changes.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

Welcome to AoS Huw,

Glad to read you are still continuing to enjoy your Quad gear. There are quite a few of us here who use some Quad gear (both valve and solid state) in our systems, so you are in good company. Agree with you concerning the Quad service personell, despite Quad now being in Chinese ownership, the guys at Huntingdon still maintain the same impeccable standards of old. :)

As others have said, if you want some advice on 'computer audio', why not start a thread? We have many members who use that as their means of music storage and playback.

Enjoy the Forum

Regards
Barry (a big Quad enthusiast!)
