Lovelly little speakers but need something with a little bit more to them
Well a lot more really
i really do like these old Wharfedales but they are just old

So I have the CD Player Teac PD-H500 and other sources going into Technics SU-X911 which is connected to the pair of Wharfedale XP2 Chevin and then the tape loop from the Technics into the Teac T-H500 is connected to a little pair of JPWs which add top end brightness but the set up totally lacks any bottom end
Also sounds a bit dry to me not sure if thats the Cd Player (PD-H500) or not have had a Marantnz CD 52 mk II se for years and more recently a Denon 700AE

Yes i know I could change the amp and speakers round the bigger amp driving the bigger speakers but the Technics just sounds good with the Wharfedales
and the Teac gives that brightness with the little JPWs that the Wharfedales lack

i do like this set up
any ideas that are as cheap as possible

Yes, look out for a pair of Mission 760i's. On average these go for around 40 quid on ebay and sound very tidy indeed. Best used with their arses close to a wall which helps enhance bass output. These should give you a more balanced presentation than what you are used to currently plus your Teac amp will be able to drive them easily. I use a pair on the end of a 10wpc T-Amp and they rock ;)

I reckon the dry sound is totally down to the CD player - Wharfedales of any vintage are not dry sounding speakers and especially not the old ones. I just got a Marantz player because I thought my system was a little dry, the Marantz swings everything the other way entirely, too far for me if I'm honest, but that is the Marantz sound, rich and lush.

Do you mean you are running both sets of speakers at the same time?

Good idea certainly been looking at whats coming up on ebay a couple of local bargains I have my eye on. Never been a Mission man but not sure if thats because of the Amps. Find the Mission sounds to harsh and tiring.

Yes i do think its the Teac Cd player that sounds dry hopefully get a chance in the week to compare it with my Marantz Cd52 mkii Se sometime in the week
Its the lower end I want to sort out there just aint much
Unfortunately using the Marantz is not an option as this is a bedroom system and the transformer humms too much

Yes two amps two pairs of speakers running at the same time and it i really like it so far not really had chance to sit or lie down and do some serious listening yet

My main system I have Sugden A25 connected to a pair of Rogers Ls4as and Nad3020i connected to a pair of castle warwicks and it works really well especially on big orchestral stuff with the Waricks turned off but on top of the Rogers they seem to add something
Sometimes though running both can be a bit tiring as there is too much mid range

I think you should just buy a graphic EQ & play with it until everything sounds "right" to your ears. Running two amps & speakers at the same time ? It's a marvel you can make head or tails of the sound :D

Assuming the speakers needed are stand mount the Ruarks for sale on the forum at the minute work well with the Teac gear, as I used to have a similar set up, just 300 series and the next Ruarks down from those ones.

I am going to be getting at least one decent 31 band 2 channel EQ at some time but waiting till i have more cash to spend. Do you think a papramic one could be useful never used one.

I know it shouldn't work but it does So far it works and I like it:)
The JPWs work as a tweeter, the Wharfedales midrange now I need a woofer

Decided to go for the Ruarks

So should be able to put the Tecnics amp and Wharfedales into storage for a bit
Going to have to sort some stands out seen some for a few in Oxfam but they dont look very heavy or easy to weigh down:scratch:
Have a pair of foot high Atacamas that i think could be ideal but in worng city and i dont drive might be a bit too much to take them up on the train:doh:

I was thinking of going for these but they are a bit to big and too old and not sure how much they would end up selling for

Thanks for everyones a dvice etc
Had the Ruarks a while now really like them very musical little speakers that sound way bigger than they are, the kind of speaker that if you close your eyes the sound isnt fixed to where they are
Unfortunately not getting to listen to them much
Thankfully have the SONY DVP-S725D DVD player working with no problems as a CD player
Even been using the Teac tuner a bit use to be a big Radio 3 & 4 fan but really go off them the last few years
Really feel I have got this system sorted out now
