having a final play with my AT95HE before the denon dl110 arrives, vta,ive tried the arm slightly up and the back and slightly down using feeler gauges (yes i know,very anal!)the tracking force to me always sounded fine at 2.1 g. Upon finally coming to my senses and putting the arm level i find the tracking force now sounds much better at 2.3 g.
whats going on here? is it the extra weight making the vta hit the sweet spot?
i feel im going mad so can someone explain what and where it's having more of an affect.

Adjusting the tracking weight and arm height do similar, but different things. Both can impact the stylus rake angle (SRA) but affect the alignment of the coils within the magnetic field differently. However, feeler gauge differences for VTA should be very hard to discern and in that case the difference is likely to be as much about how tight the arm pilar locking screw is done up.

that's interesting,so should the arm pillar locking screw be just nipped up,ie not over tightened.

its a linn basik plus,googling turns up posts about not over tightening so ive just nipped it up.
