Hello from Malaysia

Hi. I would like to say hello and wish all AOS members a belated Merry Christmas and Happy holidays. I live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My current main system currently comprises a Linn LP12 with Ittok LVII and BM Glider SL. TT PSU is the naim NAPSA. Amplification is naim olive Nac72/hicap/nap250. The phono amp is a Pipit PL22D. Other sources are CD5í and quad FM4.

My HiFi journey started when I was a student at Bristol University in the late 70's with Trio KD1033, sansui AU217 and KEF speakers. I must admit I am a bit of a hoarder so I still have the sansui together with lots of other amps, TT, CD players and tuners accumulated over the years.

Music taste is 70s and 80s classic rock and prog tho do listen to classical and other genres. My music is mostly on vinyl and building up complete sets of all classic acts like Beatles, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, Bad Co, lynyrd skynyrd, etc. if I can't get it on vinyl I have the CD version.

Welcome to the forum, some nice gear you have there in the linn tt and Naim amps . You will find Art of sound to be one of the best forums, lots of fun, technical help when its needed and appreciation of good music.
I was listening to a Joe Cocker tribute radio show yesterday and they mentioned his approach to Decca that was turned down, but failed to mention that the Beatles too were told to go away, surely one of the worst business decisions ever made in the music world.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Yes it's warmer here than other northern climes. Raining a lot tho this time of year as it's monsoon season. In answer to Chris's query I use Proac studio 125s in the main system.

Hi Al,
Most of the British, American and Japanese brands are represented in Malaysia or neighboring Singapore. However prices are more expensive than in the UK or US. I get most of my gear off the 2nd hand market. We have a thriving online trading community www.hifi4sale.net. The LP12 upgrades and benz cartridge were bought new.

As for software, most vinyl and CD new releases are readily available. However some have to be specially ordered. For the older material i have purchased off the net from sellers in the UK, US and Japan.

Nice TT there the Thorens TD124mk2. Do you have pics of it in the gallery section? I been considering adding an idler drive TT (either a TD124 or a 301) to my collection (LP12, Fons, TD150mk2, P3-24) but they are as rare as hen's teeth here and when they do come up the asking price is astronomical.

I am useless with computers, I have pictures of my last system in my album, but I don't know if you can see these if you click on trio leo.

However, I have nearly finished my log cabin, into which my current system will be going, when I'm finally in there, I will post photos in the gallery if I can figure out how to lol!
TD 124's go for around £1000ish on fleabay in the UK, as a deck I like it's robustness and of course it's musicality, but you have nice decks already.

Good luck with your quest for a Thorens TD124 Mk. II. Agreed they are expensive - a typical asking prce for one in good condition start from £750 on ebay, but they offer an alternative presentation to either the Garrard 301/401 and Linn LP12 designs, that many find quite beguiling and irreplacable.
