I've just unearthed an Ortofon VMS 30 Mk.II that I didn't know I had. I believe it has an FL diamond tip, is this the same one as fitted to the MC25 FL (which I also have and like very much)? Anyway, it's a long time since I tried an MM Ortofon and I can't rig this one up at the moment (too much Christmas stuff about), so has anybody got opinions on the VMS 30 Mk.II?
Its crap mate; best give it to me for disposal:eyebrows:

Great cart; the one I keep coming back to. The bass performance (texture, depth, tunefulness) is amazing.
I reckon it has 90+% of the performance of my other carts; a lot closer in the bass :)
Funny but I was intending buying one of those if santa brings me any cash.:fingers:

I'll give it a spin after the Xmas stuff is out of the way. See what I think (it'll have to go some to match my ADCs though, never mind the MCs).

Cracking cartridge - just a bit more refined than the more common VMS20E, due to the better FL tip. The VMS carts could sound a bit bright, so Ortofon did a tiny CAP210 capacitor, which fitted onto the back of cart between the pins. Does yours have the CAP 210?

No. I used to have one knocking about too. Maybe I've still got it somewhere. I can't say I found a need on previous Ortofon MMs though.

I may experiment with the capacitive loading. If anybody is interested, here's a simple schematic I located on the net for MMs & high output MCs:

One for low output MCs too:

Obviously, you can experiment with alternative values.
