Hello & Merry Christmas

Greetings from Sheffield!

I'm already a member of the Wam and Pinkfish and thought I'd join here to complete the set.

I currently have a Marantz Pearl Lite set-up with a pair of Kef LS50s but occasionally get the urge to swap things around. My budget is limited these days so 'm interested in vintage and second hand kit that offers good value for money.

My musical tastes range from Bach to Bjork with loads of modern jazz thrown in for good measure. I have around 1500 CDs, no vinyl and do quite a lot of listening on Spotify premium these days. I'm relatively unfussy about hi-fi now, and tend towards scepticism with respect to the effect of cables and the like, but I'm not here to push my opinions on anyone - each to their own, and all that.

I live in Sheffield and have a partner who lives close by. In fact, I'm just getting ready to go there for a Christmas Eve meal with her family so I better stop now!

The Pearl stuff has an excellent reputation and if you like it, DON'T SELL IT :) By all means dabble in vintage kit as I do but be warned, it may cost in terms of servicing to bring it back to original performance (depending on age and what it is) and I have to admit that modern components over the last thirty years or so have improved and the mid 70's gear I started with is now over forty years old (were we ever talking of 1930's equipment in the 70's?).

If we'd had the internet in the '70s then we probably would. I bet there were a lot of old boys back then (who are long since gone) still using a mains energized drive unit fitted to a plank stood in the corner.

We've had a good day. Even the two riotous grand daughters have behaved (so far).

The only way to go. We had our second turkey dinner with the usual mince pies after. Cognac, coffee and some chocolate bikkies and the afternoon soon slips by ( apart from half an hour in the workshop on the lathe of course - surprised it came out round:eek:)
