View Full Version : repair Arcam alpha 6plus cd or keep creek evo
Currently got a Creek evo cd player after my draw unit when on my Arcam Alpha 6 plus finally found the gear to repair the Arcam is it worth doing? I have not listened to the arcam for years .

Two choices the way I see it. Keep the Creek in the system as I'd say it's the better cdp or get the Arcam fixed and modded.
First thing to do though is fix the Arcam and have a good listen to both decks in stock form to see which one you prefer.
I might add that I'd be interested in taking the Alpha off your hands.
Why would the Creek necessarily be better?
I'm playing devil's advocate here and have nothing at all against Creek, but 'we' often have a downer on Arcam - me included - mainly because of the awful 1990's plastic front mouldings and thin metalwork they used until the FMJ and Diva range came along... With respect to Arcam, they were one of the first to invest in Paul Miller's test gear for CD players and they used it wisely, drastically improving. Although the Alpha 5 CD player is easy to work on and update, we always thought the 6CD was better and the CD-M9 transport was arguably the best one Philips ever made, if not the poshest, able to track scratched discs that beat all the low cost Jap players!
If the Arcam finds a new home, use it with the likes of a Klotz interconnect, or the Audioquest 'Quartz' Arcam (and we) recommended at the time, as it finishes off the 'voicing' of the player nicely.
