Who Actually Created And Made What You Are Listening To?

The more I think about it the more of a sobering thought this actually is.

The answer is probably in the 1000s of individuals, when it comes down to R&D, requirements, design, implementation, testing (of R&D prototypes), manufacturing and post production testing.

I'm not talking about any one component. I am thinking about systems as a whole.

Mind fuck. Literally. Just so you can listen to a tune.

A dealer once told me that Systemdek (in the '80s & '90s) was just two blokes in a shed in Scotland. I have no idea if that was true but I wouldn't be surprised.

OK this thread was raised after too much red, nice though it was it is now long gone:)

I was just sitting there thinking if you knew how many people had been involved in creating what you are listening to today, especially with regards to the historical aspects as to how we got to where we are now, the number of people involved would really be quite staggering.

Think James Burke Connections type thing. Even the two men make a TT would map to 1000s of people.

I couldn't agree more with the opening post, the answer to this is likely a very, very, very large number of people.:mental:

Hugh Dean who designed and built my quite fantastic Aspen pre and power amps once said to me that he doubts he's ever invented anything new. Whenever he thinks of a new amplifier design approach or feature, he almost invariably finds its been done before though sometimes not fully developed or applied in the same way he chooses to. So whilst his thinking on design topology may be a refinement or even new or unique, he said he always feels he is standing on the shoulders of dozens of others who have gone before. Perhaps he's being a touch modest but I can't help agreeing his basic premise.

Add to this the designers, testers, builders etc. of the large number of components such as resistors, capacitors and valves etc. and we have an army. Someone had to have the idea of developing Z foil audio resistors or using fluropolymer in capacitors for a better (different?) sound. It wasn't me but I sure can potentially benefit from such ideas if they work and are appropriately used in my equipment.:)

Some bloke called Jonathon Davies from a small island made my amps and bloody great they are too, although I have heard new models take a long time to be designed.

Neil Burnett designs, hand builds and soak tests all Albarry amplifiers, it's nice to know some quality equipment is still being "MADE IN BRITAIN" and not farmed out to China.
