I mentioned in an earlier post how much I enjoyed hearing the reel to reel deck Steve (Floyddroid) brought to the last Owston, so last week I put a cheeky bid on a deck on fleabay that was up as spares and repairs, as the owner had no tapes to try it with. I ended up winning it for a ridiculously low price, and was very surprised when an almost mint machine turned up at the door. I am gobsmacked by how good a sound comes out of this thing.

BTW, am I doing this right?

Well done, and good price. The Tandbergs don't seem to get the respect they deserve, and that one is a cracker.

I've read a few good comments about it, to the effect it's one of the best "prosumer"decks ever made.

That is a lovely looking rtr. Tandberg was always quality gear.

If you get the chance, get hold of a couple of half decent microphones. When I had my Revox A77 I had access to a pair of middle of the range Sony electrets.I was able to record a local choir performing Faure's Requiem in a church, and also one of our local jazz bands. they weren't the best performances you ever heard but the atmosphere, immediacy andd shere presence using a simple crossed pair was like nothing else I've ever heard.

Still no work Ali? That's not so good around Christmas (or any other time really). Hope you get sorted quickly.

Cheers Geoff. Vagaries of being self employed unfortunately. Have a few irons in the fire though.

Sounds fantastic! Really surprised by how good a recording it makes. Love to record something live, I reckon that sound very special indeed.

Yes, is in excellent condition, little to no signs of head wear so don't think it's had a great deal of use. The motor run caps have 1982 stamped on them, so it must be a late example?
