I'm sure it isn't very complex inside. What I'd do is ask someone here and have them build you one for peanuts, then sell the RA. You will then have the same unit and maybe even find an improvement in sonics. You will also be quids in. :)

No doubt it is some kind of filter network that shorts RF to ground. But the BM MKII and CM MKII already have a similar filter network built into it at no extra cost. If you happen to open up these two DACs of mine, have a look at the earth tag connection that is connected to the back panel of the case. You'll notice a solid thick wire running from the earth tag to a position on the main PCB that is surrounded by a choke and some small capacitors. That's the RF filter that is built into the BMII and CMII. It is not present in the BMI. By the way, it is also present in the Capella.

I have known for a long time that I include a lot of additional features in my products that other companies charge extra for as an add-on item. But as I have mentioned before, it is the price tag that I stick on my products that gives the impression that my stuff can't be as good as more expensively priced competing items.

This unit sells for £169!!! - IMO I would have to question RA about the pricing of this (which is most likely to be coil and some caps inside) if I was to purchase one.

The most important thing for Jim is that he is happy with the performance of his purpose.

As for RA: I admire the guy for being able to slap a high price on something and being able to get away with it. When you slap a low price on it, sales can stall. I am finding that out myself. I put a couple of phono preamps on my site a about cost price, whilst a few ebayers sell them at full retail price. Guess what: people are still prepared to pay a lot more for the same item on ebay,instead of buying it off me at a fraction of that price.

This piece of wood block and connectors is worth a fraction of its price! Second, grounding devices if not needed it not a good idea AFAIK.

It appears to me the only reason this 'router' exists is to comply with the regs with the use of an earth rod, clever marketing to relieve you of £169 IMHO and claim an improvement in sound :doh:

It's all down to very good marketing and I'm sure Michael is very happy with his purchase.

The advice I'd give anyone on AOS is to get to know someone here who can not only make stuff but design it too. You could challenge the majority of things that RA sells to be custom made at a fraction of the price using better components thus giving better sonic results.
