Could be done with a ipad, but you would need the camera kit, a usb to digital out converter, then a cable. Easier to use a player that supports airplay and then connect the player to the dac.

later Samsung/Android 4.2 onwards devices have USB host capabilities, so you can use an OTG cable to connect to a USB DAC, but it requires a specialist USB audio player such as USB audio Pro, so unless there's a specific Spotify app with USB audio out capabilities I doubt you'd be able to connect, full USB audio will be bundled with Android 5, which will arrive next year.
