Hi

Has anyone replaced their HD650's cable. I'm thinking it would have to be a specialist manufactuer? If so, how did it go?

Regards

Darren

I bought one from RedBandMusic on eBay after a recommendation on here.
It's a Klotz Tp414 based cable fitted with Cardas plugs. I am still very happy.

Darren,

If you e-mail him he will usually put what you want up on eBay.
There are specialist manufacturers like Custom Cans and Toxic Cables that also make the leads.
I have no experience of either.

Hi Kevin

Thanks for the reply.I'll have a look at Toxic Cables. I did have a pair of phones on order from Customcans, but after two weeks nothing. They offered to refund so quickly, I think they hadn't even sent them. A lot of their negative feedback on eBay is do do with long delivery times. Pitty, as they sell exactly what I am looking for.

Darren

I have a Redbandmusic cable on order-5m klotz/neutrik jack with cardas plugs. Michael that makes the cable is willing to make them to whatever spec you fancy. He was making mine up over the weekend so I should get them over the next couple of days. Once I get a few hours on them I will post my impressions. I bought 700s the other day and may well commission a longer cable over time- around the £50 mark is palatable.
Michael uses 800s so his cable research should benefit me with the 700s.....

just received a 5m sommer based cable for my HD650's from Michael. Excellent delivery service. Order to delivery about 8 days. Playing through a Capella. Early sounds are favourable but will need some hours to assess the new cable. Will advise further.

Whats your initial impressions-if you don't mind. The guys on head fi go on about recabling all the time so I took the plunge. I noticed the senn cable was slightly better without my grado extension in front of it-so it got me thinking!!!!

Hello there,

i listen to classical and anything pre 1990 in the main. Also some modern!! stuff but the recordings seem to be compressed when compared to music recorded in the 20th Century.
The main thing which I've noticed with the cable is an improvement in bass, which to use hifi words, is tighter. Also with the Capella, the phones volume is not as high as before. Also listen to TV through the same setup. ( Panny Blu ray recorder direct into Capella). TV programmes when well recorded sound amazing, even in stereo. My ears are not what they used to be as I'm 60+ and I did a lot of head banging in my yoof !!!

BUT, I'm happy with my spend and the choice of cable. I chose it on the basis that it's a bit stiffer than the Klotz.

This may not be what you're looking for but please let me know if you want me to test further.

Oh yeah, equipment is exclusively CYRUS with refurbished Mission 753's (using Monacor units, as these were the only ones that would fit !) Sound is still OK.

Await your thoughts.

received mine today....more defined bass/noticeably less congested mids/ no over emphasis of the treble--bang for buck an excellent upgrade.

Just a follow up on the above post. Custom Cans have another set of the highly customised phones I ordered that got "Lost" in the post back on eBay. Must have made another pair, don't you think!

Just tried it and the left channel doesn't work. So much for quality control! lol

Disappointing!

I would email him, but I bet it will be send it back and I will test it. Can't be bothered to spend more on the postage. Anyway, I'm not docile and can tell if the left channel isn't working..

I have only recently found out that mine was wired with the channels inversed (for the colour of the plugs), but as they fit both sides, I put up with it.

He obviously doesn't know what he's doing and doesn't even test them!

A bit harsh I think Darren. OK one channel doesn't work and you're frustrated (maybe somethings happened in transit) but at least give the guy a chance to fix it. He clearly says that any problems he will sort out FOC (I should imagine that includes your postage costs) but I fail to see how he can do that if you cant even be bothered to contact him.

I and others on here, have had very positive results from his cables and I feel that a public statement like yours is very unfair when you haven't even spoken to him about it !!

Surely, whatever the product, its both common sense and courteous to contact the seller for a resolution to a problem, before publicly dissing them. Comments like yours can be very damaging to a small business, trying to offer an honest vfm service .... mistakes do happen, its how they're resolved that counts.

Just checked mine after seeing your post and it is the same, Red plug needs to go to the LH side.
Well, that's if I'm right in thinking that on the Coldplay album, Parachutes, the first track starts with the guitar playing from the LH side. Can someone confirm please.

CageyH

Yep, LH side first.

Hmmm interesting, hadn't noticed ...... haven't actually checked mine but I will do tonight .... if mine's the same, I'll email him and point it out to him. That way he'll know for the future.

I already gave him some feedback.
He offered to fix them, but it seemed like a lot of hassle with international postage etc.

Just checked mine and the guitar on Don't Panic starts on the left, corresponding with the black plug. So it seems that my one's ok :)

I'll still drop him a line and let him know there's been problems.... feel kinda responsible as it was me who recommended him. Other than this (and Darren's faulty one) is everyone happy overall with the upgrade ? .... starting to wish I'd kept schtum !!

I'm happy with mine. I can live with the wrong colour plug in the appropriate sides of the headphones.

checked mine they are fine direction wise. The only problem I encountered was the heat shrink on the headphone plugs was a bit too long making them prone to a poor fit....trimmed 3mm off and the plug locates nice and securely. Good sounding cable IMHO-I would struggle to assemble the components for the money paid never mind assembling/soldering.
