FS: Quad ESL 63 (Mint, Fully Serviced, Under Warranty), Gradient SW-63 Subwoofers

This pair of ESL63s has been fully serviced this year, so all the panels are new, the speaker terminals are new, the electronics are in perfect order, and they are still under warranty from Quad. The cabinets are in superb condition, with a beautiful wood finish. See photos.

The cost of the service was £1037.66. You should also factor in that a full service involves two trips to Huntingdon and a wait of up to three months, even more when there is a delay in panel production.

This is probably the best pair of ESL63s you will see and hear. When you see adverts for serviced Quads you often read the small print and the service was 5 years ago, with a couple of panels replaced. This was a complete overhaul, this year.

The Gradient SW-63 were supplied by Manfred Stein of Quad Germany and are the best pair I have seen. The surrounds are in perfect order, and the cabinets and socks are excellent. There are only two small marks on one cabinet (shown on photo) but these are invisible when the Quads are sitting on top of them.

I am looking for £2K for the whole system; ESL63/SW63 and active crossover box.

I would prefer to sell them together, but I have had an offer on the SW63, so I will sell the ESL-63 separately if the offer is good enough. Remember the service was over £1000!

If you don’t already know about the SW-63; here are some notes;

The Gradient SW-63 subwoofers were specially designed for the ESL-63 and sit underneath them perfectly. The come with an active crossover that cuts off at 110Hz, so that the Quads are no longer having to make any effort in the lower bass. An extra power amp is required to drive the SW-63, but they are easy to drive. I used an Onix OA601, which worked very well, and even in my small room I got no issues with boom. The key to this combination is its naturalism. It goes deep but it's not pushy; it allows the 63s to really rock, broadening their envelope to become masters of all types of music in any size of room.

The ESL-63/SW-63 makes for an extraordinary speaker system, and it has a significant advantage over the later 989 or 2905; it uses cones for bass, and panels for everything else. This is comparable to the Martin Logan system, but this uses a rather lower crossover, which works superbly.

No I sold the Gradients separately. The 63s are likely to be sold if we can sort out transport arrangements. I'm told there is another pair of Gradients for sale on the forums somewhere.
