Re-capping service for a Denon DP-2000?

Hey all,

I have just picked up a Denon DP-2000 that is showing a few speed issues.

I have seen a few post regarding possible 'fixes' but the one that mostly comes up is to get it re-capped!

I don't think I have the skills to do this so I was wondering if anyone knows of anywhere that offers a reliable service for re-capping audio equipment?

I do re-capping and overhauls of turntables and amplifiers (work includes Technics SP10 Mk2, SP15, Sansui AU-919, AU-717)

I'm in Northampton, so close enough for Leamington Spa.

ps, do be aware that while re-capping can work to restore Denon DDs, they use a magnetic strip for speed feedback which can be the source of the problem, and also some obsolete integrated circuits. Not trying to put you off, just make you aware of some of the issues.

Hi Angus,

I don't think it is the magnetic strip as it looks in good shape. The 'tape head' looks good too. It keeps speed in 33.3 but not so well at 45.

I am going to attempt to apply contact cleaner to the pots and adjust to see if I can get 45 at the right speed. I have no idea where I am looking and what I am doing but hopefully I'll work it out! There are lots of people advising this but no directions of picture that would be helpful!

Hopefully that will do the trick but everyone seems to advice re-capping anyway.

What do you think - if I get it working then leave alone - or get it re-capped so I don't have any future problems?

If you could send me some details of the services you offer then that would be fantastic :D

Certainly try cleaning the pots and switches, little harm done even if it doesn't work.

With a machine like the Denon I would re-cap anyway for one simple reason - it uses obsolete integrated circuits. Replacing a failed capacitor is easy - the problems happen when it fails in such a way that it destroys ics. That's the biggest issue with the Technics SP15.
