I love it, we should have a 99p ebay challenge on here. See who can get the best find.

I'll even put up a prize fund of 99p. What do you say?

How far back can we backdate this challenge?

A few years back I stuck in an £80 bid on a Sound Creations SC-909 disco console as I wanted the twin LAD GAJ835 turntables on it. I checked my ebay account the next morning and was rather surprised to discover I'd won it for the 99p starting price. It required a drive to Coventry to collect it and when I arrived I was unsurprised that it had a few bumps and scrapes on the outside of the case, but on lifting the lid I was astonished to find that it was absolutely pristine - it genuinely looks like it was never used.

I've not seen another one until about a month or so ago and this one sold for £130. Still got mine - not planning to ever part with it, as it's great for parties and the auto-cueing on the turntables is just too cool!

It's going back a while now, so I don't remember the exact price I paid, but I picked up a B&O SP6 cartridge for a song on eBay. I was the only bidder.

Doesn't sound too bad for a fifty year-old MM design. :)

Around 2006, Ebay had a item with loads of furniture, filing cabinets and other stuff

Free

All you had to do was collect it from Knightsbridge
So we did

Not hi-fi, but a couple of years ago I won a front bumper for a Peugeot 406 for 99p. It was in mint condition and the local seller spent some time with me stripping it off the car. I gave him £20 and and was pleased to save about £500.

Blimey! That was nearly as much as the car was worth.

Last year I won a Pioneer DV-717 for £0.99p in pristine nick and with the remote control. I wasn't expecting to win that on a maiden bid for sure and felt rather embarassed when I went to collect it. Offered the chap some more money but he said it had to go due to an imminent house move.

My other £0.99p bargain was a top of the range Hotpoint washing machine which the vendor said was clapped out. The belt had fallen off the motor pulley, I put it back on again and still running sweetly now 18 months on.

Pair of working Celestion Ditton 15's for 99p, some would say that's all they are worth.

I got a pair from a local recycling centre for a tenner in fab condition. Seems I was ripped off lol

Actually they do daily service in my home office powered by an Amptastic, also when we had a bit of garden party this summer I used this system outdoors connected to my tablet. It sounded great and there was much dancing.

Not exactly Hi-Fi speakers, but they can make quite a lot of nice noise with just a few watts.

Hey, at least you got it… Although, I trust the poor packing was reflected in the feedback you gave? Folk like that need to know where they’ve fallen below the expected standards!

Not sure where the GPO (or should that be BT?) would have used these, but I can well believe the BBC used them. The active BC1s used, if I recall correctly, a single- channel Quad 405 amplifier.

What is odd about them? I'm not that familiar with the BC1s; the only time I heard them they had the grills on.

He has two BC1a's for sale, one has an incorrect bass unit unit, other looks original.
