Superlux HD66B headphones - unbelievable value for money

I know these have been mentioned and given great reviews in other AoS posts but the most recent was in the "private ads" area so may not have reached out to as many as possible so I just wanted to give a quick plug for these truly giant killing cans.

Do not be fooled by the stupid price, these are serious cans. They sound similar to my Beyerdynamic DT990/600's. They knock spots off my Grado SR60's. OK they are not as refined and detailed as my Grado GS1000's but I should darn well think not at the price. But I tell you what, in blind listening I reckon you'd think they'd be in the £600 bracket.

The slight limitations around heavy damping and slightly bright high uppers can be mitigated on the Capella headphone amp so I'm laughing and smiling all the way :cool:

I've ordered a pair of velour ear pads from China for next to nothing so when these arrive they will be even better.

If you are looking for a pair of inexpensive cans (at this price even if you are not) go get a pair. For the money if you don't like them (but you will) you could use them to keep your Christmas satsumas in :eek:

HD-668B are a very good value for money pair of cans, I bought a pair early this year from this very parish.

I find them very good, but very bright. That is playing FLAC at various resolutions and DSD through an iFI Audio Micro iDSD.

All the superlux cans offer great vfm and sonic excellence. The later 660/440/330 in combination with velvet pads and the foams removed really are marvelous regardless of cost -quite a bit more refined than the 668b. In combo with a Capella they really do shine when theyre impedance and hf/damping/depth is set to your preference.

I have a pair of 668B's myself, I've eulogised about them before and I am about to do it again:

These are seriously good cans which, as Steven says, shame much more expensive headphones. Build quality is pretty decent and as a result they are robust. If you have a big head (like me) they can feel a bit tight after prolonged listening, however velour pads go a long way towards solving this issue. The fitted pads are crap and uncomfortable so velour pads are a must.

Mine sound well balanced and certainly aren't bright sounding, however I've read on HeadFi that the 668B's are sensitive to the equipment they are used with so if you have a decent, tuneable headphone stage you should be able to dial them in.
