After being lent a moth rcm I am amazed at the differace in the differance in sound quality .The one I have borrowed only goes one way, hinting to the mrs for one for xmas so does the reverse model make much differace also looking at a okki nokki machine as well ?
Another question is it worth rinsing with distilled water after the first clean and can you use ro water instead of distilled water and finally what amount t of fluid do you put on the record to clean it ?

My moth goes both ways and it does improve the clean as you get at the gunk from both directions. I use a pump spay to put the liquid on; use enough to completely cover record. it is usually best to do a record twice initially. Then put them in anti static sleeves. You can also get a ZEROSTAT anti-static pistol to kill all the static on the record thus stopping the future attraction of dust.

I've used both the Moth and an Okki Nokki. The end result is very similar, but the Okki Nokki is smaller and quieter. I haven't found the need to rinse after using a cleaning solution, but I know some people prefer to do this. The quantity of fluid you need comes with experimentation - too much and it will spill onto the label or over the edge of the record, too little and the grooves don't get wet enough. I estimate about 5mls per record side.

I have found it helpful to leave the cleaned record out on a rack for a few minutes before putting it into a sleeve, as this allows the last bit of fluid to evaporate. I know some won't agree with me on this though! In any case, it's one of the best purchases to make if you're into vinyl - it has a massive effect on some records. Bear in mind though that some records may be noisy for other reasons and may not improve much with cleaning.

I have the latest Okko Nokki and no complaints at all. Very simple to use and surprisingly quiet for an RCM. I don't rinse after the clean and it doesn't seem to have any detrimental effects. I probably use about 5 mil a side as stated by Surayne above, although that is a guesstimate.

A very worthwhile, if not essential purchase IMHO.

Don't skimp on the jollop. Use plenty and spend plenty of time working it round with the brush. Spend some time concentrating deliberately on the outer edge of the record and the inner bit near the label. Don't worry about getting the label a bit wet as it will dry very quickly.

I don't think it is a big deal that it will only rotate one way.

Use the vacuum until the record is properly dry. Some say this causes static, I have never found that to be the case. I don't recommend standing it in a rack to dry as dust will settle on it. Put straight into quality anti-static sleeve, I'd recommend the Nagaoka brand although some say Mobile Fidelity are the best, I have not tried them. I doubt there is much in it. Don't try to save pennies buying the cheaper alternatives, it isn't worth it.

Yes, I would agree that the key issue is being thorough with the cleaning. use a good amount of fluid, and let it soak for a few minutes. Even if you vacuum well, some residual gunk tends to cling in the deepest grooves, so let the cleaned disc dry for an hour so so, just to be safe.
Personally, I think the cleaning power of these machines is pretty similar. I use a more costly Loricraft, which is quieter. But I doubt that the cleaning quality is greatly different. It,s how you do it.
And remember to buy a large stock of new inner sleeves.
