What do you mean by cheap?
Check out a site called Gumtree. They have sites for different areas of the country. I was on the Bristol one over the weekend (having just found the site) and saw quite a few sets of 1210s. They were all probably ex dj sets. But, the prices were up around the £350 mark for a pair, with some less than that.

me and "danjennings" are looking to buy a pair of 1210's - one each!
no hurry, im still playing with my td160! but if anyone hears or sees an ad for a pair gong at a good price then if you could let either me or dan know it would be apriciated!

At the risk of stating the obvious, look on eBay - there are usually 2 or 3 PAIRS put up each day - it seems as if the bottom has dropped out of the DJ industry and lots of pairs are becoming available (or the DJs have discovered a new preferred TT and they are all starting to upgrade).

the prices were up around the £350 mark for a pair, with some less than that.
The prices on eBay rarely go that high for a pair, in my experience.

Hi Dave,

It's more like DJs have become lazy now and prefer the convenience/cost-effectiveness of CD and/or computers to play their music - if not the superior sound quality (or lack of it!) ;)

Quite simply, there's nothing to beat the sound of well-recorded vinyl 12" singles, even on an un-modified 'DJ deck'... Those Stanton cartridges can sound quite good too, tracking at sensible downforces!

Further to what Marco has said I think you'll find virtually all pub/mobile DJs are using computer/laptop MP3 sources these days. One guy I know has most of his collection of "free" downloads on an 8GB usb drive with a hundred or so "legit" mp3s on his hard drive, just in case anyone gets nosy.;)

Indeed so, Ralph - yet another area where convenience comes before quality, and even skill...

As far as I'm concerned, a 'proper' DJ is one who can operate two turntables, fading music in and out seamlessly between the two whilst chatting to his or her audience, and also do a bit of scratching - I'd like to see these kid-on clowns do that on a computer!

Also, there's an absolute ton of current dance music which is only available on vinyl, particularly on 12" singles, so today's 'DJ' who shuns vinyl in favour of bloody computers is depriving his or her audience of listening to an awful lot of music!!! :mental:

Did you see that episode of dragons den where a guy had invented a website based piece of softwere that would mix the tracks of your choice and the let you download it all as a mixed mp3 track! It would also mix tracks in real time so I could be used as a "dj's tool"! Two of the dragons invested in it and he now has "80% of dance music labels on board".it has also been used in some major nightclubs! what a load of toss eh? I have so many problems with it as an idea I don't even know where to start!

LOL... That it may be, but it's only because the charmless imbeciles these days posing as DJs can't string two sentences together, having all the charisma of a sea slug!! :lol:
