Wanted - Mike New aluminium platter

Hi - I fancied trying the aluminium platter to see what differences it offers compared to my funk platter.

Anyone have one they don't use anymore? :)

Oh well - will probs try an ETP one instead to see if it's any different

I compared the new MN ETP platter against my old (and still used MN Al/Cu platter). The ETP platter was a slight improvement over the older platter, I couldn't justify the extra expense for such a small amount of improvement. My advice for what its worth is to stick with the ETP platter.

Yeah I doubt the sound will be dramatically different - although I think my dsp6000 speakers have plenty of room to pick up improvements, it's more likely to be my ears that can't tell :)

If anything I am after a bit more clarity in the midrange as my inspire eclipse se12 was exceptional in this area

Not mucho in it - just a slight feeling the recording is being held back.

Hence I thought metal would bring out this aspect of the music?

Then I heard the ETP might improve on the funk on this area slightly

But also I like the idea of the integrated mat (raised area and label recess) meaning I wouldn't need a mat anymore

Or maybe I just fancy spending some money and changing the looks !! ;) (the oyaide I bought sounds nice but is a bit blingy

What cartridge are you currently running, and what is the current phono stage?
This is probably where you can make a big difference.

The ETP platter won't cost me much more than what I sell the funk platter and oyaide mat for

You have an Oyaide mat on the Funk platter? As stated I use the Achromat or Reso-Mat.
I do swap cartridges a bit though, mainly between one of the following

SAE1000LT
2M Black
AT150MLX
MP-150

The SAE is currently fitted.
If the 2M black is fitted, there should be a good, sweet midrange. Is it set up correctly? Have you got the stylus correctly aligned (for arm length)?
Have you tried different feet? You are on Sorbothane footers at the moment?

Yes have an Oyaide with heavy weight

Cart is set up in that the VTA is good and the tracking weight is good

I see you have an fx1200 too perhaps you could send me a pic of where you have the 2m black positioned lengthwise? :) Have no time for alignment protractors!

Don't get me wrong - I am not saying it's not sweet sounding as it really is very very good! Just that the solid steel and acrylic beast that was my Inspire just had a slightly sharper sound in some areas

So was simply originally thinking if the steel platter would sound different

Not sure the ETP will as it's made of a similar material - but like the built in mat and the new funk one is a LOT more expensive!
