No, but the old ones required the matching stands and were very power hungry.

Never heard 'AE1' Borrowed some Bigger 'AE2' for a bit..

I never heard the 2's but have heard the 1's but it was a very, very long time ago.

A friend of mine had the original AE1 speakers on the end of a pair of Naim 135 power amps. That was a very dynamic combination, but mercilessly revealing.
