View Full Version : WTD: MM Cartridge for my Sony PS-6750 £150-200

I'm looking for a different MM cartridge for my Sony TT in the ?150 - 200'ish price range.

Will be playing into the built in stage of my TA-5650 Amp, mainly a diet of West Coast type Rock and Electronica.

In terms of characteristics I like - dynamic and neutral, not too treble lit. Carts I have liked / currently use include AN IQ2, Pickering XV / 625E and I love the low, textured Bass of the Orty VMS30 MkII.

So, anybody have anything they think might be appropriate ?

Thanks for looking.

I'm also interested in changing the cartridge on my PS-6750, I'm still using the Ortofon VMS 20E MK11 I purchased with it in the 70's. (I have changed the stylus a few times)!
I am contemplating a 2M Blue, but will be interested in recommendations, as I'm not sure what is suitable for this arm.

Denon DL 110 boxed and very little use. Asking half the new price (£160).

I'm using one of those on one of my decks and its very good.. its MC but H Output so works with an mm stage. Might be interested in another if no one take it.

Be my guest. Was very impressed with the 304 so a firm Denon
fan. Still my favourite is my AT PTG 33. Hence the sale.

The Sony arm should take almost anything out there I reckon, apart from really tricky specialist ones like SPU's. The Ortofon 540 is the predecessor to the 2M Black I think and offers a very subtle but involving listen, with none of the roughness of the 510 for example (I understand the 2M Red is descended from the 510 and OM10).

I can't believe how the prices of audio gear have increased way above wages in the last thirty years. What was £25 then (OM20 stylus) is now over £120 typically and even the endearing DL110, which has to be 'the one' at this price, has doubled in price (or more) from several years ago :(

If I needed to replace my DV20XH, I would like to try a Nagaoka MP-500 next. They come up new from time to time for £300

I could have got 1 for 150 a month or so ago, but got held up and never go my bid in. it did not receive a single bid...it was the older 50 model but basically the same... still upset. the guy said he was going to relist but must have realised what it was worth.

Im using an MP50 stylus (the older version of what is now the MP500) on an MP11 stilton cartridge...excellent combination....very musical indeed...heaps of tight fast musical bass..lovely forward vocals..and a smooth not too bright top end..

Thanks Grant. Wish I had the money to afford to keep an MP500 as a backup cart! I was more meaning that in the event of accident befalling the DV I would look next at an MP-500.

I used to have a 540 on my PT Too / Helios and absolutely loved it. Might be worth trying to find one again.

Might have a clearaudio aurum classic becoming available soon if interested. Going to be changing it to another denon in the next few days

I think that would be a bit on the warm side for me Grant but thanks for the offer.

Sitting here being mesmerised by some John Coltrane at the moment and thinking, hell, I could easily live with this Pickering XV-15 / DR625 combo :)

You'll love the Black, Mike - one of its breed sang most beautifully in my old 6750. :)
