I found my way to the Art of Sound searching for secondhand speaker cable - I'm sure I'm not the only one finding things a bit tough the last few years. Happily before the recession, I was able to set up a hi-fi from various manufacturers based on reviews in the magazines and auditions before buying (where possible), the only component I couldn't audition was the amplifier by Magnum, model IA 170 Special Edition, as these were built to order and purchased direct from the manufacture in UK. A Rega Planet (first model) and Quad 12Ls were subsequently added to with a Marantz ST 6000 tuner and a secondhand Technics SL-7 that was already fitted with an Ortofon MCP100 moving coil cartridge. The bang-on stability of the speed (direct drive quartz controlled) was a definite improvement over the Dual CS 505 II that had been my first turntable though the engaging toe-tapping presentation of the Dual using a Nagaoka MP 11 cartridge is still a benchmark which many new and more expensive turntables simply just don't match up to. I invested in decent interconnects along the way but I have been living with basic, budget speaker cables for too long now!

hi Kevin. Welcome to AoS. There are plenty of threads re speaker cable on the site if you have a look in the artists palette area i think youll find them. Or you could start your own . This area doesnt get so much traffic so its best putting up a thread there.
some pictures of your kit would be appreciated in the gallery.

any problems just ask. cheers g

Hi Kevin

Welcome home :)

Some nice kit you have , Re the speaker cables , make sure you audition them first as in my humble opinion some are vastly over priced

Hi Kevin, welcome from me too.

What music do you listen to?

And what speaker cables are using at the moment? As Al suggests, many speaker cables are overpriced, so ask a few questions here and I'm sure you'll get good advice.

Enjoy AOS,
Geoff.

Hi Kevin,

Welcome from another "West London" resident, though I confess I was born a cockney and moved to North London when I was 7, over 50 years ago. I've been in Chiswick for 12 years now, so I no longer have to show my passport when coming home :) Best of luck with finding cables, how long do you need?
