Up for sale is my upgraded Beard P100 Mk1 power amplifier. This is a beast of a valve amp and sounds amazing. Best valve amp I've ever had (and I've been through quite a few). It's capable of 100 Watts a channel from a pair of KT88s a channel. It apparently can also take KT90s and KT120s for even more power. Capable of driving difficult speakers,- even Apogees. Was often used to drive Apogee Scintillas and there is a review of those speakers online mentioning this amp.
I have had this amp recently serviced by Stephen Bright (amp repairer in Edgware, London) for the cost of £180. The work is guaranteed for one year (so if the amp develops a fault he will repair it free of charge). Can supply paperwork.
This is an unusual P100 as it's been heavily upgraded (please see internal picture) with metal film resistors in place of the fuzzy and unreliable sounding carbon resistor originals, and it?s got the superb Mundorf Mcaps in key positions, so this is a rare opportunity to hear this classic amp at its very best. The original PSU caps have also been replaced with modern Doubliers. The output valves are Gold Lion KT88s.
The casework does have some marks here and there, but nothing too serious.
Apparently the P100 Mk1 has better quality transformers than the Mk2 version, which makes this an even more attractive opportunity. Only selling as I'm upgrading to a set of (highly expensive and not that much better) Jadis monoblocks.
I paid £750 for the amp earlier in the year and £180 for the service, but am pricing this at a reasonable £900. It's very heavy indeed so this is collection only from London (near Marylebone). Can demo if required.
