Ortofon 2M red opinions

Currently using a AT95 on my SL1210 and I am looking at the 2m red my deck has a few mods consisting of upgraded rca leads,kab fluid dampner ,acromat,ADC magnisium headshell and a timestep power supply the phono stage is a MF X-vpls v3.
I am on a restricted budget but could go up to about £120 at a push ( the joys of being disabled and not being allowed to work):(

I know the feeling Gerald. The red new is usually about £80 and can be bought 2nd hand occasionally for about 50. its a very good cart for the money and a big improvement from the at95. I made that step up a while ago and it was well worth it. dont know how it would be on a techie but id imagine it would be way better.
theres always a market for second hand ones in the unlikely chance you dont like it...but pretty sure you will

Hi Gerald, I would look at the AT120 and the AT5V.

Hi Gerald, l use the Red on my Techie and it sounds pretty darn good, for £80 it a relative no -brainer, very detailed and musical.:)

Don't buy new; for £120 you can get hold of a decent MM cart. My 2M Blue, DL160 and 110 were all less than £100 with less than 100 hours on each.

I have decieded on the red just been to Audio T in swansea what great service ended up talking about record cleaing machines, Next thing Chris pops out the back and returns witn a Moth rcm and say here have a borrow no rush just drop it back whenever offered to pay and he said drop in some choc biscuits as payment .
SO its happy days dot com just got to learn to use it now :)

Excellent! Be sure to make the most the the RCM while you can. IMHO a cleaned vs uncleaned record is as big an upgrade as a tonearm.

Had a 2M Red on my technoarm/Gorbe as a loaner prior to getting something a bit better. (thanks Dave :))
Its very very good, musical and without any obvious hifi nasties.

For the money it cant be beat.

l put my 2M Redon my Gyrodec/SME V and was shocked how good it sounded, incredibly detailed- all my records sounded revitalised, very nice.

I picked up a facial brush from boots natural hair work like a charm records sound way better now to start looking for a rcm

Just fitted the red and spent a hour setting it up all i can say is WOW what a differance surface noise is gone playing sonic highways by the Foo fighters and it sounds superb. I just wish I took the plunge and spent more on a tidy cartridge years ago I cant imagine how good a bronze or black would sound?
I am going to play some of my older records later and see how they sound and post my findings.

Congrat on your new Ortofon. I love Ortofon and have had several in just one year: Rondo Red MC, 2M Bronze and 2M Black. When it is time for you to change out the tip, you should opt for the 2M Blue. I reckon you know that the stylus can be upgraded between the Red and Blue and between the Bronze and Black. In all of Ortofons programe they use the color for gradeing their cartridges. 2M Red, Quintet Red and Cadenza Red, and the Blue is a significant upgrade from the Red-series.
