Excellent photos. Nice composition and exposures look good. The quality of that Konica lens shows, are you using an adaptor to mount it? I used to have a couple of the Hexanon 40mm F1.8 lenses (on Konica 35mm cameras) and I thought they were superb.
Superb Pictures. you can feel the texture of the water.
...Also could you include your first name in the box supplied please....thanks:)

I was indeed using the Hexanon lens in conjunction with an adaptor. I still have two Konica cameras, an Autoreflex TC and a FP-1 with quite a few lenses, including 1 Hexonon 50mm F1.4, 2x 50mm F1.7, 1x 28mm F2.8, 2x 135mm F3.5, 1x 135mm F2.5...etc. I took the 40mm F1.8 for the trip because it's compact and light weight with surperb colour rendition as well as sharpness.
Superb Pictures. you can feel the texture of the water.
Thank you! By the way, King is my first name.
Ok King....interesting first name....if you could add it in your profile under name which is between email and location then it should show up in your post header.
It is just so everyone can communicate on a more personal level. Thanks in advance.
So was it Elvis or Martin; or is it a family name ?:)

I had a couple of FT-1s and a little TC-X with several Hexanon lenses. The photo quality was very good. (still preferred my M42 Zeiss lenses on a Spotmatic though)
Mainly using a Nikon P7100 and an old (but wonderful) Olympus C8080 these days.

Hi Barry,
I have actually been hospitalized for quite a few times since my health suddenly went downhill last September caused by a condition called pulmonary fibrosis due to the anti-bodies in my immune system attacking the lung tissues. I am still being treated with steroid tablets daily and drug infusions at different intervals.
My cartridges are luckily still there but I don’t play them as often as before.
Best regards

Hi King.
Very enjoyable pictures.
Your shot of the old church has very noticeable convergance of the verticals was that deliberate or just a characteristic of the lens?
It is largely due to the editing software (Topaz Adjust) that I used.

Nice, but where is it? ;)
Marco.
Hi Marco,
It is still Stavanger, Norway.
Thanks, King. I’d forgotten that you were in Norway… I just looked at the last set of pics you posted and saw “Town centre”, and I thought ‘Town centre’ where? ;)
Anyway, looks good. It makes me even more determined to ‘do Scandinavia’, on our next major trip abroad. However, Finland will be first, as that intrigues me the most. Plus, I’ll get the chance to meet up with Mika and his amazing bicycle!
Marco.
Great pictures King. love the use of light. Always wanted to go the Scandinavia; my dad went over a couple of times in the 70's and loved it.
Thanks, Grant!
I had always wanted to go to the Scandinavian Peninsula for years and eventually four months ago I made up my mind and chose Norway as my first destination, filled with great enthusiasm and high expectations. Luckily, I made the right decision, with no regrets, as I am still lingering with so many enjoyable memories. The scenery and landscape of Norway ( especially the fjords) is dramatic and stunning, very different from the places that I have been to, for instances, Spain, Italy and France. Many of the houses are quite unique and colourful too.I look forward to visiting Iceland or Finland next time.

Gamle Stavanger, also known as Straen, is the largest surviving wooden house settlement in northern Europe. It is a beautiful area of little wooden houses and cobbled streets along the west side of the harbour - just where the cruise ships moor during the summer.
Almost totally un-commercialised, there are a few galleries to watch artists at work.
Nearly all the houses are white (only a few are allowed to be another colour) and they vary in age from less than 100 to about 300 years. The houses are lived in and most are privately owned.

Krakow(Cracow), Poland -it is the second largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Vistula River in the Lesser Poland region, the city dates back to the 7th century. It was the capital of Poland until 1569, when Warsaw took over the honours.

Great pics both.
@ King, clever use of extra wide angle lens to give his pics perspective and take as much as possible,
together with people shots, great travelogue photo's,i actually still prefer your Macro shots of nature and flora, just nitpicking.
@ Peter, different technique, you favour natural perspective but your real stand out point is your capture of light,
really hard thing to do well that back in the film days may require revisiting the spot at different time of day,
if no PS trickery, Qudos to you Peter.
thanks for sharing.
p.s. there used to be a chap called MarkLj on PFM, his pics were top notch, it'd be great if he was here.

I'd suggest you pick up a used Fuji X-E 1 body, fantastic and versatile! A few months ago I bought a mint/boxed used X-E 1 body for £150 (inc postage), cheap as chips.
Recently bought a mint Olympus OM2N and three Olympus Zuiko lenses (28mm - 50mm - 135mm) and a host of extras for £100 delivered, I so wanna get back into film again.
Looking for a medium format 120 as we speak....

Hi Andy, thanks for your nice comments!
In fact, I love taking macro shots but it really takes time and patience.
For holiday snap shots, time is also the key and sometimes least is best. So for many occasions, I just shoot and go without too much thinking about composition and other factors- a compromise but inevitable. Anyway, all these photos give me many enjoyable memories which I can hardly forget.
MarkLj is an outstanding landscape photographer and I truly admire his exceptional skills and wonderful photos.
Here are some pictures for you with which you may be familiar:-

Hi King,
Always knew you were technically brilliant too, your use of the ultra wide angle lens shows that, it's a difficult lens to use,
in lesser pair of hands the pics would lack interest, and i get what you say about limited time on your travels,
hence the Poland shots looks flat compared to Norway one's, but Scandic countries tend to have cleaner air
and the 66 degrees parallel gives definitely helps with lighting(longer sunlight/twilight hours maybe).
Thanks for feasting my eyes with places i used to haunt, Loch Awe is a special place where i did a spot of trout fishing there,
interesting take on Inverary, most people take the shot from the hump bridge into town and drive through further up Argyle,
very dramatic composition and you've captured the brooding sky brilliantly, well done.
Keep them coming lads.

Yep King, thats tops, even the reflection from the frogs eye is pin sharp. :)
Been googling the Fuji X series cameras Peter has mentioned, never associated Fuji as a premium photo brand for sure,
but i am at a lost at what is the best in the range, there's at least 6 with the X prefix,
but i still think i want to go full frame as Macro and Landscapes interest me more.
Thanks again, Andy!
The above photo was shot hand held ( ISO500, 1/60sec, +3step) in my garden where two frogs were busy mating. They had simply ignored my close and disturbing approach at the beginning otherwise the shot would not have been successfully taken. The camera used was a Sony Nex 5N with a Minolta MC Macro 50mm F3.5 lens in conjunction with an adaptor and extension tube.

@King, i was gonna ask is that your house in the frog's eye and thought 'surely not',
are you on Beta Blockers?, :eyebrows: i mean hand held at 1/60 and pin sharp?,
the DOF is pretty narrow so you must've shot pretty much wide open.
@Peter, showing new skills in your Portfolio, you guys have given new food for thought,
must admit i have been a bit sniffy about these compacts hence solely keeping checks on 5D mk2,
looking at the results here with a XE-1 and Nex5 there's not much in it, funny enough was looking at a Nex5 on Gumtree last night for £150.00.

You can buy the likes of a used/second hand Fuji X-A1 body for around £100 which accepts the full range of Fuji's XF lenses, that's what I'm on the lookout for to extend my current X system.
Just check out this guy's amazing photo's and talent shooting with a Fuji X-A1, link below;

right now i have a 'Magic Drainpipe' 80-200 F2.8 and a Tamron 180mm F3.5 macro,
these little guys you and King have never crossed my mind,
have noticed others have switched from DSLR to Micro 4/3rd too, so confusing.
P.S. since your recco, i have moticed on Fujirumour that a X-Pro 2 was imminent, dual card slot and maybe FF sensor....umm i wonder.

I used to take pictures at 1/60 sec very often with a Minolta SRT 303B ( MC Rokkor 58mm F1.2 lens) and Canon A1 (FD 50mm F1.4 lens) decades ago. I could even shoot pictures at 1/40 or 1/30 sec though the successful rate would be down to about 30 or 20% due to camera shake. For macro photography, the main problem normally is the depth of field, especially when shooting wide open at full aperture, which is so shallow that even a couple mms will make the focus point of the object blurred. So if light is sufficient, F8 or F16 will provide a greater DOF which is more essential to macro than portrait shots.

Reminds of our holiday there about three years ago, a stunning location, so much to see and do, interesting buildings everywhere. I'd return tomorrow in a flash, beautiful place to visit...! We loved it.
The local trams are cool. We went in early March and it was very very C.O.L.D.

If I wanted a camera (digital) that took excellent pics, especially close-up (for a forthcoming venture!), and I didn't want to spend a fortune can anyone suggest a good one to me ?
I used to be well into photography, I used to process my own films and prints many moons ago, and I still have a Nikon FE2 but only ever owned a cheap digital camera
I have no problem buying used either

Not sure I agree with that.
Even back in the sixties and seventies Canon were making superb lenses, as were all the Japanese companies really (I loved my Konica Hexanon lenses). Zeiss, Hassleblad and Lietz amongst many in Europe also had some great lenses. Even some of the 'cheapo' Russian lenses were well worth using and are now fetching realistic prices on the second hand market. There are many modern digtal SLRs in use with lens adaptors allowing the use of vintage optics. I had an M42 adaptor on a Pentax DSLR some years ago, so I could use my vintage Zeiss lens collection.

I don’t know about Fuji FinePix S8200 but I have a Fuji FinePix HS20 EXR which is quite similar if more expensive. It has decent image quality and well built. For £130 new, the Fuji FinePix S8200 is good value for money.
Having used quite a few bridge / compact cameras and still own a Panasonic FZ28, Panasonic LX3, Fuji X10 and Canon PowerShot A620 etc, I think the Panasonic LX3 and Fuji X10 provide the best picture quality. If you can find either one second-hand, it will beat the Fuji s8200 easily, without any doubt.

The sensor is very small at 1/2.3" which is 5.76mm x 4.29mm and 25 mm2 and it has a lot of pixels so probably not much good without good light, also the camera is really bulky.
look at the top view here:
http://www.techradar.com/reviews/cameras-and-camcorders/cameras/compact-cameras/fuji-s8200-1166880/review
A larger sensor with less pixels would be better.
some links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_sensor_format
http://www.gizmag.com/camera-sensor-size-guide/26684/
A camera that fits in a pocket or small bag and can be with you everywhere is much better than one you have to make an effort to have with you.
The small fuji's are really good.
A more recent compact model would be a Fuji XQ1
The XQ1 has a 2/3" sensor which is 8.6mm x 6.6mm which is 58.1 mm2 and more than twice the size of the fuji S8200 sensor so a much better sensor.
http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/fujifilm_xq1_review/
http://www.wexphotographic.com/blog/fuji-xq1-review
Lowest price I can see is from the Fuji refurb shop, always as new from there in my experience
http://shop.fujifilm.co.uk/fujifilm-xq1-refurbished.html
There is a 10% discount code ' paypal12 'that gets it down to about £153 + delivery which is a very good price. (£260 on amazon)
Link to a flickr search for XQ1 photos https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=xq1
There are of course better cameras for double the price but that is a no brainer really at £153.
A Sony RX100 (my favourite camera) would be better but a lot more money.
original model:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Cybershot-DSC-RX100-Digital-Optical-Black/dp/B008CNMZDW
Mk2
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-RX100M2-Advanced-Cybershot-Digital-Black/dp/B00DNVA0M6/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1424605847&sr=1-3&keywords=rx100
Mk3

Hope that helps.
Maybe start a thread about what cameras to buy as there are no recent ones here and nearly everyone that likes hifi likes cameras :)

This is not a holiday camp but once a place where over a million prisoners died
I find it sick that anyone would want to walk thru those gates. Those poor people who were transported there not knowing what was going to be mapped out for them after they were marched thru those gates yet people are freely walking thru them these days.
I felt very depressed and sick too when I thought about those who had entered the gate of death into the hell of hate, evil and violence, without knowing their fate in hopeless and endless horror where every second became a century. This year is the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz; let’s hope this kind of tragedy will never happen again.

I think the Panasonic LX3 and Fuji X10 provide the best picture quality. If you can find either one second-hand, it will beat the Fuji s8200 easily, without any doubt.
I have just purchased a used Canon S95 which in it's day was a close match to the Panasonic LX3/5. Some say the Canon was better and some say the Panasonic was better, so they are obviously pretty close. I read loads before I purchased and I just thought that the Canon was a little smaller and neater than the LX3/5 so I will be able to carry it with me in my handbag at all times so I think I will be able to take it with me everywhere. I also have experience of an old Canon Digi Ixus which was superb so I stuck with Canon
Anyone tried the S95? I know it's a bit late as I've already purchased but I'd be interested all the same
If I get it and don't like it I can always re-sell it for what I paid for it
Thanks again for your suggestions :)
Congratulations for your new toy and hope you would like it! Look forward to seeing some of your photos soon.

I had the Canon S95 for a while in Autumn 2010 when they where the one to have.
It took great pictures straight form the camera, nice and sharp and colourful, similar to the older ixus models but better.
All that I did not like about it was that it was really slippery to hold.
There are accessory grips available now to make these easier to hold, ask if you need a link and I will find one.
Ideal camera for everyday photos of life and great if you got one used and cheap as when I bought mine new it was £315 from Amazon.
A few photos from when I had just bought the S95. No photoshop, just resized and uploaded and they are reasonably sharp and colourful.
Some of my favourite things, pub lunch, wife and lager

Well I have received my Canon S95 and what a super little thing it is... the build is top notch... Having used the Ixus before I have high hopes for this little wonder..
I am out and about tomorrow down the boat club so will be taking some pics there and other places... If there are any decent pics amongst them I will post them on here...
I've take a few shots already around the house and they seem very good indeed... I think the low light pics I have taken are superb...;)

Still using my little Sony G lens. Always takes a decent picture. I was looking at an upgrade myself last week but apart from parting with serious cash I couldn't find any pocket camera that appeared any better. Used to has an Ixis myself and they are excellent, with superb build quality at the top end anyways.
Hope to see some boat pics over the weekend bev.:)

I've used 2 Digi Ixus over the last 8'ish years and they have always been superb, even though the specs are not that great. So if my advanced S95 is much the same but better then I can't wait for the super pics to come... I only buy 'Made In Japan' models so I can be assured of the best build.. well that's my thinking anyway.. :D

I'm very, very, reluctantly soon to part with my brilliant Olympus C8080. The best built digital camera I've had. Only 8mp, but great pictures, purely down to the excellent lens. But times move on and I have a replacement or two. (I'll keep my old Kodak C880 though, as it is nearly as good as the Olympus, but not worth a lot. Nice Schneider lens and useful manual wide zoom)
Decent camera the olympus. Not quite pocket size but had a good lens. Used to have a nice dlsr of theirs but the Bro snaffled it...Big bully:lol:

My brother bought a new E Type V12 drophead roadster when they were in production. It was silver, with with a white convertible top and chrome wire wheels with whitewall tyres. He looked a right poseur in it, it was a great looking motor though.
He flogged it and bought a Jensen Interceptor instead, so he'd have room for the dogs in the back.
These days he drives a VW Eos (he's 77 and drives faster than me.....just).

Only a well preserved and maintained example or a properly (ground up) restored one are even worth looking at. They'll still cost a fair bit to run but an old dog of an E Type would be a disaster.
Get a rust free MGB GT, easy to maintain, stiffer, more useful and less aggro than the MGB roadster and fun to drive.

This one is a bit skewed. I had two energetic dogs on leads in the other hand who kept yanking me about.

I have just purchased a Panasonic Lumix LX7 camera
I will compare it's results next to the Canon S95 I purchased a few weeks ago
I will keep the camera that gives the best results... It should be with me on Tuesday.. ;)

Very recently got a Canon PowerShot SX700 HS. its got wifi:carrot: lol, not had any out days yet but it seems to take a good pic and has 30* optical zoom plus a *2 proper digital on top so you can get *60 and it stays clear.:stalks: can actually get to *120 on occasions depending on light etc

While I love the Canon S95, and the pictures I've taken so far seem to be very good indeed, I still had a hankering to try one of the Lumix LX series cameras so purchased the latest LX7 to see what it's like.... I will try the LX7 against the Canon S95 on exact same pictures and see what turns out best... I will then keep the camera that I think gives the best image....
Having said all that I do think the Canon S95 is a fantastic camera and it's so small it fits easily into the handbag!!..... :D

I sill have plenty of pictures which I took in Krakow but its time to end that.
Mykonos is a Greek island where it spans an area of 85.5 square kilometres (33.0 sq mi) and rises to an elevation of 341 metres (1,119 feet) at its highest point. There are 10,134 inhabitants (2011 census), most of whom live in the largest town, Mykonos, which lies on the west coast. The town is also known as Chora and it's nickname is The island of the winds.
