Christmas came early - from 1981

Just become the new owner of a complete Panasonic separates system, all apart from the speakers.

From the top it's an RS-635 cassette deck, SU-2800 Integrated amplifier, plus an SU-2800L three band tuner:

Also included was an SL-H304 TT, not the worst TT I've acquired in the past, that 'accolade' goes to a Kenwood heap of junk, anyway:

Turns out I've got me a Techie:eek: looking at the bottom of the platter :eyebrows:

The drive belt is completely perished but the rest seems to function OK.
I've looked over the rest of the kit and found the cassette deck had the dirtiest tape head I've ever come across. I've cleaned it up but the head definitely has some wear.

The reason I know the kit is from 1981 is because of the date code on the Dolby chips on the pcb. Internals of the cassette deck:

The tuner works just fine, even the travelling lamp on the cursor still works. Internal shot showing the usual void inside most tuners:

Now the amplifier doesn't seem a bad jobbie for the time. There is precious little info on t'web but I guess it's a 25 watter, using a Sanken(?) module:

The in built phono circuit even uses a discrete input stage in front of a very average op-amp, giving a low noise level:

Internals of the amplifier show quite a large void where presumably extra heatsinking would go on higher power versions:

There is the usual provision of sockets on the back, but including those horrible twist lock connections for the speaker wires:

So it's nearly all functional, just a drive belt to get, but don't know which room to use it in :rolleyes:
