Dynaco A25s

I have just acquired a pair of these. Surprisingly good, considering the paper cone directly driven bass/mid. I understand the tweeter has a simple capacitor crossover. Great integration of drivers giving a good image and a tighter than expected bass end.

I would say its the directly driven driver that is the reason they sound so good, I have a thing for crossover free speakers.

It's a good speaker. One of the best compacts of its time, both drive units were SEAS made. The Scan Dyna A25 was virtually identical, I believe they shared the design. There were also A10, A35 and A50 models if I recall.

Am I correct in thinking that early models had the 'port' at the top of the cabinet ?

IIRC, the Dynacos were simply re-branded Scan-Dynas, made by Scan-Dyna on the same line. Nice speakers, and the basis 30 years later for the World Designs WD25A which used the same idea of aperiodic loading with updated drivers and crossovers.

Lots of info here about how aperiodic loading works. Although it looks like a reflex design, it's very different in principal. Follow the design links. For info only as they're no longer available as kits, but I think the drivers are still around.

Can't get that link to work. I wonder if it's the same as the WD kit was?

Works OK now. Odd.....

That's the same bass unit that WD used, so it is still available.

I have just bought two new Seas A26 bass mids from Falcon to replace the ones whose voice formers came unstuck through careless storage and I repaired with tissue and glue on my WD25TEx. Seas assured me they are exactly the same as the originals supplied in the kits.

If I remember correctly, there were a few differing configurations of driver and port positioning.

You have reminded me about the WD kit speaker. I remember seeing it the magazine a while ago. Interesting that they decided to use the Dynaco as an inspiration.
I wonder if anyone on TAOS has built a pair ? Perhaps someone should start a new thread...
