I agree - probably not.

I would say that 40 odd pounds for a Mark Grant cable would be money well spent, or NVA cables are good and great value.
If it doesn't work for you they both offer a 30 day return policy.

Have some fun and make your own, alternatively set yourself a budget and trawl ebay.

Yes making your own is well worthwhile doing, RG174 coax is both economical and sounds great

Can you not borrow some and see if you can hear any difference? Some people can and some can't. If you can't, then don't bother. Or buy something with a returns policy that gives you your money back, doesn't matter if it's expensive, you just return it anyway.
FWIW I can hear differences.

Try to pick up something 2nd hand for not a lot. You have an itch so why not scratch :)

If/when you upgrade kit the cables can stay

Last of the big spenders

Just had a look on ebay and couldn't find anything within your generous budget.

You shouldn't be at all swayed by having gold plugs on your interconnects. Gold isn't a good conductor but it does resist tarnishing.

Keep your eye on this pair. Much better than the Cambridge Audio by far, in fact all of these below I consider better than CA cables

Many thanks frank I look at ebay everyday

I look now and again to see if there are any bargains to be had.

I have the Best Boy one on my watch list anyway and that is a super little cable and £20 (if it reaches that price) isn't too much to pay for it either. For some unknown reason ECOSSE cables seem to slip under the radar and get ignored while I see the punters squabbling over QED and CA cables. Go figure

Van Damme are a good basic no frills cable at sensible prices. I tend to look for the less well known brands that are great performers, don't attract much attention because they don't have a well known name on them and hence why they make the best secondhand buys. The Kelvin cable fits well into that philosophy.

Van Damme may be cheap, but I've not come across a product of theirs that didn't sound good. I've got a roll of about 40 metres of the stuff (interconnect) laying about, just for knocking up the odd cable.

I believe the Kelvin cables were under the Kelvin Labs umbrella which were a british company in Southampton. Don't think they actually made the cable so the actual source is unknown

Well not quite rubbish. They are sold by Richer Sounds and bought by the masses who frequent such places because they believe they are buying high end hi-fi, along with their big plasmas and surround sound systems. It is because there is a plentiful supply that so many appear for sale on ebay. The same as in our town we have a large Honda dealer, so guess which is the commonest car seen locally?

Have a bash. It's not hard and there are tutorials on the net. Useful skill to develop, we all start somewhere. A decent soldering iron won't cost a fortune and it'll last you years, then you can make as many cables as you want, cheaply.

To be honest, if you are enjoying it I wouldn't worry about cables. Once you start scratching that itch you just get scabby. Look at all the rows on the forums about cables.
About 40 years ago someone asked me how they could improve their stereo. When I asked them what was actually wrong with it, they said "nothing". I told them to leave well enough alone and enjoy it. I wish I could have taken my own advice, but it was already too late for me. :(

Damn and I thought this forum was above cable threads.

Assuming it wasn't put together by a blind monkey in boxing gloves you'd need to spend shit loads to make any noticeable difference beyond that achieved by buying "better" kit.

There is an awful lot of truth there Richard, we should call you Plato, the Greek Philosopher and Mathematician. I wish I was given this advice ten years ago before I got tied up in a specific cable upgrade company. However I have to say upgrading cables and making them is fun and satisfying, and a good upgrade for a cheap price can be particularly rewarding, but it all must be kept in context!

Did a bit more listening to these digi cables as IC's ......They really are quite nice for the money tbh. They have a nice clear crisp sound to them; and I've only been listening off an old cd player that is nothing to write home about so far. Their construction and presentation for the money is exemplary .
