Can anyone give me an opinion on the Celestion Ditton 22 and 44 please. Looking for an older speaker and these have caught my eye.

As everyone knows my favs are the 'Ditton 33'. The 'Ditton 22' are basically a smaller version of the '33' with 8'' Bass unit where the '33' has a 10''.

I never ever liked the '44'

The '22'/'33' can be a bit bright on the wrong system imho..

Ditton 22 were too shouty in the upper mid range on my system. Gave vocals a bit of 'squark'.

I liked the 22's but they have some strong sound coloration coming out of the boxes. I did recapped them and saw some improvements, namely in the bass frequencies, but I wouldn't buy them again.

I have both sets of speakers. The 22s are great performers. The 44s a similar presentation to the 22s, just more of it. The 44s have a 12" woofer and because of that you get more bass feel than you could from an 8" driver. For the money 22s are a fantastic bargain. I'd love to snap up another set in order to assemble a decent surround system.

I've never experienced 'squark' with either. I have never driven my speakers to extreme levels.

I've got a pair of 44's and they are fine speakers.

Not the last word in hi-fi but very musical and believable.

Yes, they are a bit 70's coloured and yes, they can be a bit loose in the Bass, but with a decent SS amp, with some quality watts up them to control those big cones, they really can sing.

Great detail and soundstage. You can easily get totally immersed in the toons.

I have recently done this with 2 pair of 44's and a UL8 as the centre. A significant improvement over the Q Acoustics package I've had for years, with the crossover to the sub set at 40Hz the bass from the 44's is immense.

I can't help thinking this either, I'd also really like to get my hands on a pair of 66's.
