Are there any supporters of GL on this Forum ? I have listened to his music since about 1970, and found him one of the best singer/songwriters .
He writes from where he is in his life, both spiritually and geographically. Songs of sadness, happiness, loss and ( especially ) trains. 'Canadian Railroad Trilogy' is a classic. His 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' is an account of the sinking of the ore carrier in Lake Superior.
I can always find a GL song for any situation, happy or sad.

M Miles.

Yes, I too like Gordon Lightfoot, though I only have three of his titles:

Agree, sadly he is an often under-rated artist.

Like many artist who become widely popular for a short time they are somehow completely forgotten by most radio stations etc and the next generation is unaware of how great they are ! Only got a few tracks of Gordon Lightfoot the obvious ones ! If you could read my mind, rainy day people etc but will be looking for some albums any suggestions ?

I listen on a regular basis. 'Best of' collection includes most of the hits of course but then they were hits for good reason.

I have my own selection which features the wreck very near the top. However, my favourite versions of all the good bits tend to be live performances thanks to YouTube. Sound quality may not be the best but musically they hit the spot for me.

I still find his delivery a bit strange and he doesn't have the best voice in the world but that does nothing to diminish his stature.

I have just played Back Here on Earth and Did She Mention My Name. No complaints about Lightfoot's voice or delivery! :)

I think my view is probably influenced by the fact that my favourite live songs were done just after he had a major health problem. He was obviously still weak but somehow, it added to the pathos of the songs, especially, If you could read my mind and Wreck.

Even so, listening to some of his early live shows, I still find his delivery a little bit wierd:). The recordings seem to manage to be more 'normal'.
