Hi!

I need a new long interconnect. It's going to be around 3.0m long and it's being made to connect the turntable to the amp. The problem is that it's going to be placed inside a tube under the floor with 20mm diameter.

I bought a few meter of Klotz MC5000 but it's fairly thick and unflexible, I'm going to try and place it tomorrow but my guess is it won't fit.

I'm thinking of trying the Mogami 3106 that is the stereo version of the 2549 staple, which is a great cable that I love but I fear is too thick too. My question is if anyone tried the Mogami 3106 and preferably compared it to the 2549 and what are your experiences and opinions.

If anyone tried the 2971, all feedback is welcome too.

If anyone can give an idea of another great sounding, very low capacitance ,thin and flexible cable, please tell!

At 3.0 m you will probably need a shielded interconnect, which does not help flexibility. You could ask Paul (RFC on this forum) about how flexible his Pluto interconnects are. http://www.referencefidelitycomponents.co.uk/shop/cables-interconnects-rca/

That's why I'm considering the 3106. It's supposedly the stereo version of the 2549 but thinner and more flexible, but there are slight differences. Just wanted to know if anyone tried or know if it's good too.

They're very flexible, and very low capacitance (65pF/m). Unlike cheaper studio cables, they use decent low loss dielectric materials and proper braided shielding rather than spiral shields.

A 3m long interconnect between turntable and amplifier is a bad idea, regardless of the cable involved.

Unless you can use a standalone phono amp situated close to the turntable. Feel free to use a long run after that.

Thank you all. The electrician managed to fit the Klotz, so no worries with that.

I have been using the 2549 under a rug for a while. It's not 3m, it's actually a little under 2.5 with the TT cable included. That's a little over 150pF + 220pF for the BrioR phono input. But I tried without the cable and there wasn't much difference to worry me. At least the Acutex didn't complain neither did the SAE. It'll trouble me a bit more if I get an audio technica or ortofon.

Anyway, I'll be building an OpAmp phono stage as soon as I get the time, so I can control capacitance a little better.

Most MM carts like to see between 250 and 350pF, some even more than this, but usually 450 maximum is a good safe rule of thumb. The average coax is around 70 to 80pF/m and the average phonostage loading tends to be about 150pF, so yes, it's wise to keep lead lengths to a metre or two for MM.

The limiting factor really becomes the effect of external noise coupled to the signal, especially where MC low output cartridges are concerned (really decent screening matters) and the generators ability to drive the signal over a few metres. Since it's a high impedance input for MM, most MM carts will happily drive several metres without problem.
