:stalks: wow, they look more difficult to remove than the standard opamps, but i can do it:D

Ive upgraded my Marantz CD75MK2, CD50SE (bought that one modded), and Philips CD850MK2. used LM4562 in all with great results. I think they make LM4562 with the pins? Other contenders to use?

I am upgrading the caps in my lower spec Technics SL-P350, and want to change the opamps in it and my higher end Techncis P990. I assume they are dual amp opamps.

The opamps seem to be a different pin and slightly smaller than the kind i used in the other CD players.

Picture of the PCB shows the black dots were the ICs are. The 5238 is near the output. IN this player, using Nichicon KZ, FG, ES, Elna Cerafine and SilimicII from HifiCollective:D

----------
P990 service manual is a bit confusing , i know the IC amplifer is opamp, not sure what buffer amp, should be changed also

I have done some op-amp tweaking during the years. I prefer the Signetics 5532 in Philips-players. Signetics is owned by Philips, and I think the circuits is made to match their own brand.

In japanese players I use JRC 5532. They usually have JRC from the factory, and I believe they fit best.

I have tried some LM, AD and BB/TI op-amps as well. They can be very good, the best may be the TI NE 5532 imo.

My best tweak is to replace the duals with singular ones. It takes some some time to make it fit, but you get the advantage of having no analog filter.

Whilst the 5532 and single 5534 was at the top of the pile, and is still a good device, it has been outdone by the LM4562 and single LME49710. For even better sound add a 75-82R 0603 surface mount resistor to each channels output - if the outputs are placed to drive a capacitive load of anything above 100pf. The advantage of the 4562 is vanishingly low distortion.

Cheers / Chris

Yes, I know the LM 4562. I'ts a good op-amp, but it tends to sound too "dark" imo. I don't get the tonal balance right.

:D Hi Johan and Chris. Thankyou for the reply and help.

Johan, the TI NE 5532, would be the new 5532 now at Element14 etc. I dont know if there is a smd single to dual converter, space would be a problem as the opamp is on the bottom of the board:scratch: Something I couldved done with my other players opamps, as there was room:D

Chris, I have the LM4562 in other CD players i have recapped, the smd type is so small:D, i watched a tutorial of how to removed them. The 75-82R 0603? this would be at Element14. It must be those tiny rectangular things i saw on a Marantz cd player i was recapping. Low distortion would be very good. This particular cd player P350, track fast as lightning:stalks:, so heaps of life left in the mechanism and laser :D Dont think the boutique opamps were around in the 80s:scratch:

I was thinking of dil-8 types of op-amps when I wrote about the bypassing tweak. I dont know abuot any adapers, I bend the leads and solder on some wires to make it right. It is hardly possible with smd types. Sorry about that.

That is fine Johan :) i rather other type than smd also :D

P990 PCB board , standard elna cerafine and muse, so will be leaving the caps on the P990 but used the same opamps as the P350
