Come on guys, these are lovely little speakers!

I espy a pair of later Keilidh's. What are you using with these? If you can make them active (yes I know you have to open them up to cut links on the crossovers, but all the drive units will be loose by now anyway) the midrange balances the bass better and the whole thing is really really good I remember :)

Am using a Primaluna Prologue one valve amp or a Temple Audio Bantam gold driven off a Beresford Caiman 2 fed from a vortexbox server...

Hello Tim,
Are these white Minstrel's a Royd product or are they standard black ones painted white with re-clothed grills?

enjoy your music :)

cheers Al

These used to be mine, they are factory finished white, I bought two pairs that had been commissioned in white for a fancy home cinema set up. The cradles are probably worth £50 to a minstrel fan. They make a noticeable improvement. These are a complete bargain and sold by a gent to boot. I should buy them back just for those odd 'minstrel hit' moments.

Damn - I always fancied a pair of Royd Minstrels, but don't have anywhere to put them nowadays. I don't understand them not selling.

Blimey - no interest for ages and then two enquiries back to back ...

I am going to take them in order to be fair ...

James (Eskimo123) was first, both in the thread and by PM ...

If his interest doesn't pan out then I will get back to you John.

James - PM on its way

Thanks a lot Tim! Greatly appreciated...

They sound good in my room!! They look great too (much smaller than I imagined... which is a good thing!)... I think I'm perhaps yearning for a touch more bass out of them... I'm considering maybe a sub or something just to give a touch more as I really like what the speaker is producing at the mid/high end. I've current got them placed pretty close to the wall. It's a carpeted floor...

Any recommendations from anyone are welcome or perhaps tips on how to get the best out of what I've got already...

Hi James, part of that perception with the bass may be down to how there is very little 'overhang' or 'boom' to the sound, which non-HiFi speakers seem to do in order to create a bigger illusion of sound. Royd speakers are very 'tight' and 'fast' and aren't the 'deepest' of speakers. I think when you go back to "more bass" you might fine it lacks the 'tune' of the Minstrels.

A sub would be very difficult to integrate with the Minstrel's bass, but if you want more bass from them, the following recommendations are:

* Bring them out into the room a little bit, toed in, with the ports facing inwards - then try outwards
* Bring them closer to the corners of your room with the ports in & out

Each of these will make a significant difference to the sound - speaker positioning can make the difference between massive bass boom and no bass at all.
