Hi there,

Looking forward to making some new friends on this forum. Started on the hifi "journey" in the late 70's when I was a student. Remember when you used to take a whole hifi with you to university!!

Not done an awful lot of box swapping over the years - much too grippy with the money for that.

These days I've settled on the following. I hope we have some MF fans around here:)

Amp: MF A1008
CD: MF A5 (not used a lot tthese days)
Digital frontend: Laptop to Arcam iRDac
Streamer: CA NP30
Speakers: ATC SCM11 (old version)
Listening Room: Attic

Welcome to AoS Jeff. Some nice stuff you have there. Vaguely remember the 1008 amp from MF(did it not have its own inbuilt dac). I had a A1000 up until a few years ago. Nice tt and cart as well. Pop some pics into the Gallery section when you get the time.

Yep the A1008 did have a DAC built in, based on the XDac-V8 I think. Don't use it much though now as much of my music is via USB and that DAC was limited to 2448 on USB.

Yes I saw you were using an irdac and a cambridge streamer. I only do ripped to flac myself although on the mf m1 it ups it to 96 automatically.

What music are you into Jeff?

I had to think about that music question for a bit. My instictive response would be "classic rock". I grew up in the 70's with Bowie, Floyd, Purple, Zep, Glam.....all the usual culprits. I was a teenager when Punk came along but being a rock snob, I missed it at the time came to appreciate it much later. 80's was Heavy Rock - US and UK varieties. In the 90's I came to Jazz, but still mainly rock. About that time I was letting more of the Joy Division Post Punk stuff in, sitting alongside Kind of Blue on my shelves.

Lately I'm listening to some classical to see if I "get it". Having a nice time listening to some of this. Got a "Great Composers" 52-magazine set with accompanying CD's for a give away price on Ebay. A nice intoduction.

Don't know about you Grant, but as I got older (and wiser) I realised that music appreciation wasn't all about belonging to a tribe (I was a more hairy person in my youth). The music still gets to me and I don't really care about genres anymore.

Nice post. I agree. I was all blues and rock myself when younger but appreciate stuff I wouldn't listen to then. Love Humphrey Lyttleton for example now. Don't do rock much now although still like the classics.

There's a classical section of what are you listening to now in musical compositions. Don't do so much classical myself now.
As I said start a thread in gallery showcasing your gear and listening space as we all love pictures here. There's also a show us your belters thread in analogue with prizes to the winners.
