View Full Version : Hi-Fi News High-End Show this coming weekend
I've just noticed it is the new Hi-Fi News organised show this coming weekend (beginning of November). For once the Hi-Fi News website actually has loads of details as to what's being demonstrated and I must admit I'm very tempted to go - even though it is a 2.5 hour journey for me.
Anybody else thinking of attending?
Do you have to have an online subscription to view all the in depth details
of equipment because when I looked all I found was a long list of the usual
suspects seen at shows it didn't even list what could be heard with what?
There were no manufactures of interest to me with records being the only
interest and I can buy them at my local record shop so no I wont be going;)
enjoy the day if you do go and please do one of your excellent reviews on it

No, I don't subscribe to Hi-Fi News and have no problem seeing all the show details:

Click on the individual Suites menu on the left for the specific details.
EDIT: It certainly isn't a list of the 'usual suspects' as far as any of the other UK shows are concerned - most of the gear being shown at this one is not being shown anywhere else.
It's a rare chance to hear the JBL Everest loudspeakers which is something I would really like. Difficult location to get to without a car, though.

I got the train to Egham last year then walked to the river, along the bank and up the hill to the venue. Quite pleasant if the weather's decent. Potentially wet and muddy if not though. I'm taking an amp this year so it'll have to be the car this time.

Yes - in fact it's a rare opportunity to hear a lot of the gear that will be there.

Good to see that Audio Alchemy are back in business. They made great digital gear at sensible prices.

I think HFN concentrates too much on High End. Out of my budget, etc. so I wouldn't want to go to any show by them. I used to subscribe to HFN, but their concentration on ( very ) expensive kit does not interest me...
It's all out of my price range too but I still find it interesting. Literally the only think making think twice about going is the distance.
Hard to believe that's a UK show TBH.
I'd go but I have heard it the main attractions before. The Naim Statement with the big Focals is worth hearing. As ever some will like and some won't, but IMHO it is genuine high end kit. I thought it was very, very good at Bristol but I didn't walk out gobsmacked. But I was damned impressed really.
The Everests are very lively beasts and well worth a listen too. Not for anyone who likes a laid back, relaxing presentation. Capable of knocking you for six with punch and clarity - if you can take it:) Well, that's what I heard in Munich with Mark Levinson kit anyway.

It was the Focal speakers that blew up. Or out.
I'm going on Saturday. Not planning on buying but lots interesting to get my head round.
On balance, the five and a half hour round trip required to attend is just too much for a one day jolly so I won't be going after all.
Probably the next show I'll be going to is Scalford, although that seems to increasingly be becoming a trade event which, in my opinion, will ruin it - but we shall see.
Such things can be arranged! ;)
