I'm thinking of putting a 32 inch television a foot from one of my speakers does it affect the speaker sound in any way ? I read something years ago that you should never put speakers too close to a tv ? Any advice most welcome thankyou

The speakers will need to be shielded Michael .

If it is a plasma or LCD you are fine. If it is the old style CRT you are not fine unless it is more than 6 inches from the speaker or the speakers have shielding on the magnets.

It won't harm the speaker or the sound but it will affect the picture on the TV.

Magnetism asside make sure that the TV is further back from the speakers. I find this to make a marked improvement on the sound stage. If you can diffuse/treat the area around the TV, this may improve on things even more.

You can put it on top of the speaker if you wanted it won't make any difference or cause a problem.

As Joe says keep the screen back from the plane of the speakers though or it may well mess up stereo imaging due to reflections of the screen.

The screen itself will act as a sound reflector and that is likely to have some impact. You don't need to worry about shielding with flat screen TV's though.
