All round legend .... only saw him once (in Glasgow in the early 80s, with his own band) ... what a star.

Yep, saw him with his band when he was doing the rounds in small venues like pubs etc. He was a nice guy and one of the best bass players ever,.

An all time great for me

Saw him playing an upright bass at Surrey Uni in a scratch session.
He played that just as well as the bass guitar

Saw him a couple of times: thirty years ago with Billy Cobham, Clem Clempson and David Sanscious; and more recently, after his liver transplant, when he did a gig with Robin Trower and Gary Husband. I've got most of his recorded output, which I'll be revisiting over the coming weeks. I've always loved his compositions and work with Pete Brown ... big talent. BTW, his 'authorised' biography is well worth a read, being a cut above the standard of most books about musicians.
