Enough lurking!

Hello all from Brockley in SE Londonium.

I have been lurking for a while, as am currently looking to upgrade from my current (and admittedly headbanger teenager) system that I have had for almost 20 years (Christ!), into something a bit more refined.

I have always loved that classic, warm 70s hi fi sound. My brother in law has a really nice old Rotel amp that he has recently had serviced and recapped and hearing that through his new (to him) Celestion Ditton 25s gave me a severe dose of hi fi envy for the last few months. I has also shown me how crap the phono stage in current amp is.

So I have managed to find myself a 1975 Pioneer SA 9500, which has been serviced and am now on the lookout for some suitably 70s speakers to pair up with it. I would love some older Tannoys (like my old man had when I was a lad), but am open to anything from around that period.

Current set up includes the trusty Rega P2, a Pioneer A400 and some Tannoy 605s. The TT gets the most work, but I also have millions of tracks that get played through the iMac.

Musically, I am into mostly rock (the more obscure 70s heavy rock and psychedelic stuff is my thing),as well as a bit of soul, funk and rare groove. I will listen to anything good, though.

Anyway, enough about me. I have really enjoyed what have read so far - thanks. I look forward to joining in and thank you all in advance for talking me out of spanking the coal money on ridiculous hi fi gear that I can't afford (!).

Great intro so thanks for that. Lots of people here will help you in your quest for Seventies speakers (the golden age of speakers if you ask me). I do like those little Tannoy you have already, though.
Part of the AoS philosophy is about getting value for money and not spending more than you need to for a great sound so you have come to the right place :)

Hello Richie. Welcome to AOS.

Seems you have a good idea of what you're hoping to achieve. I like the seventies gear too. That's a nice Pioneer amp you have, we'd like to see a picture or two of that in The Gallery.

Why not start a thread in the 'Past Masters' section seeking recommendations for your proposed vintage/period system? I'm sure the members will have a whole load to say.

welcome to AOS. You could look at Spendor or Harbeths from that period or even some Rogers. Some very natural sounding speakers manufactured by these companies during the 70,s.

Hi Richie and welcome. Love your amp. I'd add some of the big IMF transmission lines to the above suggestions but then I would suggest them!

Thanks for the welcome, chaps, and for the recommendations. They are pretty much the names I am looking at.
