30kg of polished front panel and blue lights. Subtle. I have to drive to Kettering to pick it up. I say "pick it up", but I may need help. Will combine it with a family visit to Manchester though.
So I hope someone buys my Consonance pre to pay for it, as I made a higher offer to make sure I got it. And of course I will gut it when I get it home. :rolleyes:

Cutting the pre amp to use it as a power amp and replacing the 'lytic caps with polyprop or PIO caps, depending on what will fit. I will put in a switch so I can use it as an integrated if I want to, but having just built an LDR pre it's the power amp I need.

Well, I got it home without a hernia. It works, it glows blue, it gets warm (I have a couple of computer fans flowing cooling air across it). The treble is a little splashier than I would like, but I AM using it as a integrated for the moment. As soon as I can I will replace the electrolytic caps in the signal path and wire it for power amp duties. That will let me use the LDR pre, but I will incorporate a switch so I can go back to integrated.

Yup, that'll do me. It ain't valve, so I don't expect problems. Besides, the previous owner ran it with no trouble. He said.

:-) hopefully will be ok. A bucking transformer would be easy to knock up for peace of mind though. Dunno much about SS, but I'd have thought running a 220v amp on our mains would alter bias voltages, besides stressing components.

Any transformers can play up if you use the on a high voltage, but at least its not valve. My 220v amp has a bucker in a box to drop the volts. I usually have 246v coming in so it is now happy at near 220. easy to do and gives peace of mind.

I do the same with valves, but not transistors. Anyway, it is silent mechanically and not getting any hotter than expected, so I feel confident. :eek: It's also silent through the speakers at full volume too (not when playing music, obviously :)).
My only complaint with it, apart from the weight, is that the blue numerals can't be dimmed, just the aquarium illumination. When I open it up I'll probably put some clear yellow film over them, which turns them green and dimmer. Even the polished front panel is OK, as it just reflects the carpet.
