I take the boy tt hospital every month and on way back get him a McDonald's takeaway. If you want your food in a bag it'll be 5p. WTF.
This was supposed to be about plastic carrier bags. Now paper bags are getting the same treatment. Ridiculous.

And who's policing all the 5ps getting to their intended charity or ending up in someone's pocket!:(

Bags for fast food are exempt (at least they are in NI) I would pull them about that.

All customers should say that's fine, I'll stand here at the counter and eat my food and drink my drink and when I have finished you can clean it. If enough people did it they would soon get the message - too many eating and no room for buying:D

They've lost a customer; not that I eat, but the boy likes it... I am not against the curtailing if plastic bags, but recycled paper ones is another matter. either way Mcdonalds should have fitted the cost of the bag in the price. you cant comfortable buy a carry out without a bag.
Its no problem though as I will save some cash. Mcdonalds will lose business, and some people wont have jobs and less tax will be paid etc. Badly thought out laws are the worst ones.
I got a free bag at the chemist for a tray of medication that did not need a bag as its exempt, but nothing else is in Scotland.

They DID fit the cost of a bag into the price, but now they want to charge you TWICE! as they want to be seen to be Green. I wouldn't eat there if you paid me, but that is not the point.

Created an issue where I work since they built a bridge to the Isle of Skye, since we charge extra for shipping to Scottish islands. Folk complain that crossing the bridge is free so there shouldn't be an extra charge. I had one who took the position that since there was now a bridge that meant that Skye was no longer an island. That was an interesting half-hour on the 'phone.

I feel this coming imposition of the 5p bag cost is our own fault. We should be re-using bags anyway, or using alternatives.
It's a bit like speed bumps. If drivers didn't speed in built-up areas then there would be no requirement for bumps.
Same with speed cameras. Keep to the speed limits and they wouldn't be required...
Mind you, that wouldn't suit some of the Audi drivers I've seen !

Have to say I reuse all my bags multiple times, and in fact buy aldi ones to use in house rather than bin liners etc as they are strong and the right size. Before the increase I bought a load of them for this use and they can last me a couple of months before going to recycle. The tesco ones are a rip off at 1 p far less 5p. You are lucky to get out of the shop before they burst. I do reuse them though as single use bin liners upstairs. I am pretty green, and make my own compost too.
Iwas in a shop today on impulse rather than planned and did not have any bags. I refused to pay 5p for a piece of crap, and took the stuff out to car in trolley lol.

Shops/business's of a certain size have to keep records of bags sold and include them in reciepts, 4p+vat, small companies can police themselves, as for the revenue raised it's up to the company where the 4p goes although most have declared that charities will benefit.
