Hello all. Recently found this forum and Mr.Beresford and am so pleased I did. What a gent. Mr Beresford is and so helpful.
I'm seventy years of age (71 actually. Lose decimal point after 70)
Have tried to gain reasonable music reproduction for years using cheap things like mains cable for speaker wire.
Use a cheap valve amp., Cambridge whatsit CD player and mainly MP3s.
High tech. aren't I and losing my hearing ability a bit.
Keen to learn on here. Have lots of questions.

are you one of those types that goes into high street tv shops, asks impossibly difficult questions about the tv's based on your knowledge of the satalites, that makes the staff squirm and try to blag and answer that you know to be false? if not then try it... its great fun ;)
(i work part time in an independant tv/hifi/camera shop... the sort of place that people with the knowledge that you may have comes and asks imposibly difficult questions about satalites... we make a cup off tea and let you explain some stuff for 20 mins, shake your hands and you leave the shop leaving us hopefully a little more informed for the next guy that comes in with a desire to watch forign tv...)

I used to be one of those suckers that the rest of the staff would leave chatting to such "cutstomers" who'd ask loads of impossible questions and rarely buy anything... I didn't usually mind, but I'm now at the age of bemusement (comes to us all) when the "next generation" are discovering things for the first time and raving about them as if nobody else has ever "done it" before ;)

Don't worry Peter H, there's so much to discover on here and few of us have very expensive "boutique" kit as we love vintage gear on the whole, which is not so expensive.. Welcome..

Thanks for the welcome. 'Going into TV shops and asking questions?' Haven't tried that but might now. Where do you work? An alternative is to ask an aerial rigger to quote for installing a 1M dish high up with 4 LNBs tuned in. That's interesting, Sat. TV is a good way of watching footie for free from most countries and some good HD progs. some very good music channels too. I have two Rogers S/H speakers being delivered tomorrow. Bit old but sound good to me. Live near Folkestone by the way.

it was my job to talk to the chatty types too.. i really enjoy it, you get to meet some really interesting and excentric people.
was chatting to this one guy once about leica and he was telling me about a leica camera he liberated from a dead german in the war and sold 50 years later for enough money to go to the carabean... it might have been true, it might have been a load of tosh ... i dont care it was fasinating either way!
