View Full Version : Farewell
As I am shortly to be banned by Marco I thought I should wish you all well with your AoS life.
I have met and dealt with some good people. Not lifelong friends but just decent folks. To those especially good luck.
I hope this doesn't get deleted but I suspect that is asking too much.

Moved yes for now to Abstract Chat as the Welcome section probably isn't the right place, here is probably best for now.

Good luck to you as well. Always sad to see someone banned (unless they annoy the hell out of me of course:eyebrows:), I was unaware of any comital of sins but then I don't get around the various areas that much.

Ah, I've just read the thread at TAS. Still seems a shame but whoever pays the piper etc.
I sent Alan a PM earlier, asking him for clarification for his comments on TAS (shown below), and whether or not they were designed to be derogatory:
There must be equally if not greater value from someone on AoS who is worshiped for their kindness to the HiFi race without having to even think about, mentioning or considering publically products from a banned/loathed person. Just become positive and post endlessly about an AoS saint who can meet you needs.
Unless you are getting something out of mentioning a banned member at such a length?
How about Brian of AoS for a starter. Reads like he is your man and Marco will be back to do what Marco does.
It seems that instead of having the grace to respond to my PM, Alan has now decided to ‘play the victim’ and seek the sympathy vote, by starting this thread, instead of simply explaining himself. Well, that’s his decision. However, I will not ban him until I know exactly what he meant by those remarks.
The bottom line is that people need to understand that if you’re a member of AoS, you simply won’t be allowed to ‘bitch’ about AoS or me elsewhere, and then be welcomed back here afterwards with open arms, as if nothing has happened. It’s as simple as that.
Marco.

It is a pity Alan could not come out with things in a straight manner, rather than that conundrum wrapped up in a riddle:doh:
Lol - do you have ESP? That’s almost word for word what I told him in my PM!
The question is, why won’t he explain his remarks? If they were innocent, then there would be no problem. The only conclusion I can draw, therefore, is that they were designed to be derogatory. If that’s the case, then he will be banned.
However, I’ll give Alan until midnight tonight to explain himself, before the ban kicks in. I can’t say any fairer than that.

ive been around more than my fair share of forums and will confess i dont look at this one too much but my impression of people here were that they were a bit more adult than the stupid, childish drama queens ive often seen and moderated on myself.
Seems its just as alive and well here as everywhere else judging by the attention seeking first post.

Precisely. Pure and utter attention-seeking, drama queen behaviour, par excellence.
I’ve now decided not to ban Alan. Doing that would be counter-productive, as then he'll think he’s entitled to ‘play the victim’ (and moan about big, bad Marco) on any forum allowing him to do so.
Therefore, I’ll simply take the piss, by copying and pasting here any further remarks of his I see of that nature, in the hope that people’s reaction to them on this thread will embarrass him into not acting like a tit in future! ;)

Just goes to show perceptions vary. I just saw it as someone wanting to say goodbye while they still had the opportunity to do so.
I really dislike the idea of banning. If the forum is supposed to be representative of a community, why not allow an "irritent" element that an community will have? I must admit I was a bit disappointed when Jez Arkless was seen fit to be banned and when that NVA chappie was ejected from TAS. I know, I know, I know, I know he can be pretty forthright in his views and I'm sure he would even admit that at times he can be his own worse enemy. Even so, I'd still rather include him than exclude him from a forum. That's my opinion anyway.

That’s all very well, Stephen, and easy for you to say when you don’t have the headache of trying to manage those types of characters.
Me? I like a quiet life, and so if folk are more interested in using a forum for their own selfish ends/personal entertainment, than in trying to fit in constructively with our ethos/community, then they can go somewhere else and play their games, as life’s too short to spend it mixing with irritants - especially when I have to pay for the privilege of ‘housing’ them!
The bottom line is that I wouldn’t associate with such people in real life, so neither do I want them here.

My own view Stephen, is that it's fine for members to have a controversial or contrary point of view, but a constant "irritant" or confrontational stance just for the sake of being like that, gets nobody anywhere.
Precisely, Geoff. We’re only interested here in people who wish to be a positive influence on our community, and form a constructive part of that. ‘Trolls’, whether blatant or subtle, are completely unwelcome.
Also, in terms of holding a contrary view, disagree away, but always be respectful of the other person’s opinion, even if you don’t agree with it - and most importantly, exercise the social skills and tolerance to know when to back off in an argument and ‘agree to disagree’, before it causes offence, otherwise you simply come across as an inconsiderate and arrogant buffoon.
During a debate, there’s simply no need to bludgeon someone into submission, simply because you *think* you’re right! :nono:
Marco.
