Our local Google group exists to service the local English community out here in France. People sell their unwanted stuff and offer services etc.

I was sitting here after lunch and an ad came up for some 'old' hi-fi for sale.

Seeing the makes and prices I was there in 20 minutes.

Boxed and immaculate.

TEAC A-R600 amplifier - €12
Tannoy Mercury MX1-M speakers - €12 the pair.

I am sitting listening to them now. Perfect working order, they were her mother's and still have the UK plug on the amp, unused over here. Tonally, the little Tannoys are really very good, no real bass obviously but for a bedroom system or with the REL I reckon they are terrific. Especially for under £10. The amp seems pretty good too, Powerful and clean, I do like the input selector, nice rotary control and little lights that whizz along. Most impressive.

Perhaps I should have gone for the tuner and cassette deck as well. Both the same price!!

Looking at the prices on eBay, maybe I should have at that.

That's a bargain! What are the models of the tuner and tape deck?

At longer listening, the little Tannoys are a bit plummy and can't really hack it at any decent level. Still really nice for the dosh though.

The amp on the other hand is quite impressive. Never heard any TEAC stuff before. This, by my standards, is quite recent, one of the newest bits of hi-fi I've ever owned. - all for €12:)
