Hi All

My elderly next door neighbour's CD player has stopped working, so looking for a v cheap replacement for him.

Something old but decent would be nice, but as long as it works and is cheap - not too fussy.

Oh and a remote would be good:)

Cheers

Rich

Does it have to be a CD player Rich . Why not use an old DVD player .

That was my initial thought mate, but he is in his eighties and I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible for him.
It also wouldn't work location wise.

What do you class as cheap - sub £50 for example?

Hi Rich
I would recommend something like the Marantz CD50 which has the following spec:

It uses the famous Philips TDA1541A Chipset and a Philips CDM-4/19 Composite mech...

I have one, but it is not for sale, however they are readily available for between £25 - £50 on eBay...

I have owned mine since new, from the 80's, and it has NEVER EVER missed a beat and NEVER not read a cd however scratched or damaged... I don't use it now but I would still highly recommend it ;)

I hope that helps some...

Good point - I'm treating him, so £25ish tops. As I said old is fine:)

I've got a Technics SL-PG4 with remote for £25 but I'm a bit of trek from you unless you pass Bicester for any reason?

Thanks Geoff, i'll ask around my pals and see if anyone is passing.

In the meantime - if anyone has anything else?

What a shame. I recently bought an old Technics SL-PS670D off Ebay, in perfect nick, for £1! (I was the only bidder). Worked absolutely perfectly and I sold it on only last week for £25. It would have been perfect for you.

I have PD-S703 which you could pick up for less than £50

I'd grab Mike's Pioneer if I were you Rich. I had one here for a while which I acquired for a friend and it sounded lovely, better than my Arcam CD72 in fact ;)
