Hello,
I have observed weird behavior last time on my CMI which I haven't seen on my CMI. Device is connected to Macbook via toslink and fed by Audirvana Plus software. When I stop the playing sometimes input LED starts quickly blinking and I can hear cracking in my speakers - like loosing the lock or something. When I hit play again it cracks once or two times and then is playing fine.

I have checked all the cabling etc and it seems to be fine. I am using fixed output and never seen this on CMI. Any idea?

Hello,
Nobody answered, so it might be only me or you haven't tried in with Audirvana Plus 2.0.4. Anyway I will investigate it further with different player and different interface. A+ had long time ago problem related to wrong buffer feeding and those noise/cracks etc. during its load, so maybe it's back again. I observed this being even worst when music is paused and I tried to change the volume back and forth on CMII pot - cracking even more. So, don't know what pot Stan used to solder in CMII (assuming that's not ALPS) it might be problem with pot or software. Needs some investigation.

As I understand it the LED will blink if signal lock is lost. Mine blinks sometimes when music the file being played changes format from 16/44 to 24/96 for instance.

Why don't you contact Stan before starting a thread to complain? His service is second to none as far as I'm concerned. Always willing to help. :)

I don't want to bother him (again :-/) as I am not sure where the problem lies. Blinks between the sampling rate changes are fine, but if you have A+ 2.0.4 and CMII connected over toslink and hit pause on your Mac, try to listen over headphones or even speakers to hear any clicks, noise etc. I can hear it, but it may be also related to the software. AFAIR, CMII does not have any mute function implemented, so could be prone to any anomalies traversing over the inputs. Also the pot is not ALPS (not saying that's bad), but I had bad experience with the 7520 pot and changed it to ALPS in the past with excellent result.

I don't see a complaint here Bernie, just a typical AoS enquiry the likes of which are posted by umpteen members day in day out concerning umpteen other manufacturers products. I've never understood why enquiries concerning this outfits products are treated so differently to those from others

Sorry Dave, I disagree. :) It would be easier for the OP to contact Stan directly.

I see you remember the thread about the Purity function. Comes in very handy when testing things.

I personally have no problem with anyone asking a question or making a comment about one of my products on AoS. I am sure that if anyone is desperate enough for support from me directly, they'll email me.

Ok, so we could taking like this endless without a clue I suppose. I do not know if I am desperate (maybe), but it would be extrrmely nice if someone say something about that possible issue and my question. please here or via PM.

I've just received answer from the developer of A+ and as I supposed that might be related to the fact that CMII does not mute outputs like the previous models - in my case 7520SEG. This feature I guess is by design and has its own purpose - maybe someone could describe or point out what benefit is due to it?

Here is the answer, but still, it doesn't explain why I am able to hear the same when music is paused:

The weird sound when stopping music (not pausing) or changing sample rate is due to an issue in the DAC itself that is not muting its outputs during this operation.
FYI, Audirvana Plus sample rate change sequence starts by sending silence for about 1/2s, then requests the sample rate change, waits for a reply from the audio device that the operation is completed, then starts the audio playback again.
Using the additional latency setting in the audio system page of the preferences may help though, especially as the connection to the DAC is made over TosLink that can't get feedback from the DAC that the sample rate change is completed.

Now, I am asked him is there anything that could be changed to mitigate it, but I guess the same question I can ask to you Stan - is there anything you may see as the improvement on your side to make it inaudible?

hello, i think you're too picky...how many complaint threads have you posted? :) if youre not happy with your dac you could send it back...

I am not sure what you're trying to achieve, but my understanding is that thread is open and anyone can say whatever they want within the rules . I am not complaining, I am (as customer) try to get some answers for things that are not so "cool". Not to complain, but rather give feedback and than see if anything could be improved.

If this forum is not for open minded people and censored somehow I am off, like some people already. This is not polite IMHO, period.

The forum is open to contributions without censorship. Unless inappropriate or offensive comments are made and then moderators can take suitable action.

Asking questions and making observations is fine. Personal comments can cause problems. However, if a member does not like the input from somebody else, I'd suggest not responding. I have mentioned this before.

Clear to me.

Constructive criticism is a positive thing which any developer/manufacturer should welcome as it enables him/her to fine tune a product. Big manufacturers spend a fortune attempting to iron out the bugs before a new product is released and even then they don't always get it right, smaller operations often aren't able to afford to implement such a procedure therefore they rely on their customer base to effectively test drive the product. Forums such as this are a useful tool for smaller concerns in this respect and in this particular instance I am sure Stan takes careful note of every glitch which surfaces in the meantime. Let's not forget that the CMII is a relatively new product therefore it is likely there will be a few bugs which need ironing out initially, and as such AoS is an excellent vehicle to bring these issues to Stan's attention. Suggesting that a member 'doth protest too much' when bringing such issues to the fore is disingenuous and smacks of 'fanboi-ism'. As Stan has mentioned himself, he has no problem with this so neither should anyone else.

EDIT: It would be nice if someone in the know could actually address Krzysztof's concerns as it is clear to me that he likes the CMII otherwise he wouldn't be taking the time to address these little niggles. Moreover it would be helpful to other owners of the unit who may be experiencing similar issues but are worried that the 'Hyena's' will pounce if they air them here.

The blinking LEDs function and its purpose have been discussed at length in its own thread running several pages. But it is not uncommon for people to ask the same question over and over again, even though it has been discussed many times. So the forum ends up with multiple copies of the same question, which eventually wears people down from answering. It's like ground hog day.
At the same token, I have made it clear multiple times on forums, and even going to such length as to dedicate a support page on each of my websites that tells customers what to do and how to contact me when they get stuck or have a question or technical issue.
I have my own support service for that, which is indicated on my website.

I find it strange that anyone could think that they can pose a personal support question to a manufacturer on a forum that is not part of the manufacturer's own business, and expect an answer from the manufacturer. When you post a question on a forum, it is for anyone to answer. If you are looking for an answer from somebody specific, then you send them a PM or email. That's common sense. Most of us in the trade don't have the luxury to sit down all day going through threads to see if there is a question for us. We got work to do, and very little time to stop and chat.

Cool, so you have the question and if you are willing at all to answer please drop me an PM email. And if it so hard to answer here and point out to the right direction, I do not see any value of AoS forum besides adverts of new products and elaborations about how cool is this or that. I wanted to point out pros and cons like in the normal review (btw, concluding that it is indeed very good achievement) and help maybe to improve your product Stan, but ok, it is flawless of course.

I do not have time as well working hard, but as customer would like rather to get the best experience as possible and up to this the best product out of your brand, especially if it was said that's for music conneseuir - yes, music conneseuirs sre picky.

EDIT: AoS forum value meaning this particular subsection.

...and yet you took the trouble to write all that and Krzysztof is still none the wiser, perhaps a link to the appropriate thread might be helpful?

I guess we are talking about thread where there is description for normal LED behavior of course, but I am talking about potential anomalies, that's why.
