Who was talented and looked good for a long future in recording and then just vanished? If you go Googling you're cheating. Just say who springs to mind.

Here are a few:

Laurie Anderson. A sort of electronic 'one man band' act who did some interesting stuff, then sort of fizzled out.

Steve Forbert. Who made the really brilliant 'Jackrabbit Slim' album and then more or less vanished (as far as I know).

Trevor Rabin. Did the amazing 'Wolf' album, some of the best rock guitar (and tracks). One or two albums sold reasonably if I recall.

Laurie is still making music, even better than her earlier albums, check out Homeland her last and Strange Angels probably her best album. She was also Lou Reeds wife

Trevor joined Yes, does film music now and still does the odd solo album. Wolf is a fabulous album by the way.

Well, other than being Mrs Lou Reed, it is worth looking at her Wiki entry to see how she far from "fizzled out".

They may still have careers, but you hear nothing about them.

On a slightly different tack, how about Sharon Robinson? A singer with a beautiful voice, who's appeared on many albums with numerous recording stars, but not had a career as a solo artist. That's the girl with a voice like honey who sings with Leonard Cohen on his Ten New Songs album (and others). The album is worth buying just to hear her.

Within the specialist music press, covering those particular genres yes you do.

Trevor was never mainstream always specialist melodic rock, AOR and briefly more noticeable re being in Yes but only because 90125 spawned one big hit Owner of a Lonely Heart, once that passed Yes went back to selling to their fans and those who like prog. Trevor was with them for two more albums then went into the more lucrative soundtrack composers pool, his name pops up often enough re that but again soundtrack music is another less mainstream genre.

Laurie had a massive hit with O Superman, that was it a fluke after that she was mentioned often enough elsewhere.

Basically re these two artists I disagree with your supposition.

The Regents... Until I discovered that they have made five albums when browsing Spotify. I'm not sure why it came as a surprise to me as I doubt any outfit comes into being with the soul intention of being a one-hit-wonder. For every successful band or artist there must be hundreds, if not thousands, of very talented acts plying their trade under the radar, so to speak ;)

Little Steven (Steve Van Zandt) and The Disciples of Soul are another act you just hear nothing about. He was pretty damn good when he performed with Bruce Springsteen.

Apparently when young I had a love of the tune sooko sooko (must have been in the late 50's or so) funny but although I've not heard it for 50 years I still remember tune, and may have been where my love of Latin styled music came from. Dunno who did the song but I can still hear it yet so must have been a radio hit.

He ended up joining the mafia and was Tony Soprano's consigliere for many years. Much more excting than rock and roll....
