Actually it's just the same addiction.

Going '"cold turkey" is easier said than done. I've tried giving up smoking many times and I'm OK for a day or two, or even a week sometimes. Then the blurred vision and inability to concentrate sets in along with a weird 'twitchiness' and the overall feeling is pretty bad and I'm not even a heavy smoker. The prescription medications stop the need for nicotine, but have worse side effects than the nicotine withdrawal. It's difficult! I have cut down though.

Its easier if your ill. I gave up when I had pig flu a number of years ago. I smoked 60 a day for 40 years, but the illness saw me over the first couple of weeks, then it was just willpower tbh. After 4 or 5 years I can say the absolute need has gone and although I occasionally have a puff on an ecig I don't need it. The savings helped feed my other addiction.....hifi

Alan Carr's "Easyway", look it up Geoff if you're not familiar. I smoked 30 a day for years with tens of failed attempts to quit, read the book once & have neither smoked nor wanted to smoke since [2 years September just gone.]

That is of course, if you actually want to quit :eyebrows:

I started smoking at 17..started trying to quit before I turned 20. Watched my dad then my mum die of smoking related disease. Quit last feb. after 7 months smoked for 10 days and now been of them 4 weeks tomorrow.
It is for some people impossible to quit. I watched my dad try and after 3 months he was a different person but not in a good way. Some people just cant. simples. My mum tried and couldn't. every smoker is different when giving up. I know people who found it quite easy and also those like my wife and me who struggle on and on.
The e cigs are just another but much safer way to get your nicotine fix. I've never used them but know a few folks who swear by them.

Vaping. Who is doing it ?
Those addicted to nicotine who are attempting to give up the most lethal substance freely available in the World today. Tobacco.
All rather sad, as many 'vapers' started in their teens after being influenced by tobacco companies freely advertising their evil products.

The pure nicotine in vape juice makes me hyper and gives me headaches.

Do the research and you find nicotine combines with other alkaloids in tobacco so affects the brain differently to most vape juices.

Try Aroma WTA juice from the states. It has the alkaloids in it. But that is a bit like Valium TBH, rather than bad caffeine. Still I prefer it to pure nicotine. Man their flavours are easily the best I have tasted. Just absolutely delicious in most cases.

Been vaping since March, not smoked a ciggy since, first time I've been off rollies since the late '70s :)

Once you get some decent kit (KangerTech or some such), and reputable liquid, I use DEA which my local tobacconist stocks, it's a doddle...still working my way down the nicotine scale however, so I'm still an addict, but the health risks are nowhere near those of fags...

Im coming up on two years vaping.
I have used the the cigarette style e cigs with the throw away tips-replacement tips are expensive but you can pop the top off and refill the gauze with your own liquid.
The system I use now is the disposable reservoir with a 510 style rechargeable battery. The reservoirs using a cotton wick are cheap- about a fiver on amazon for five but are variable in quality and the cotton can make the flavour a bit bitter.
My latest tip is a stainless Aspire with bvc or bdc coil. Its worth buying a stainless/glass tip as it is more resilient and the least effecting on flavour.
Replacement coils about a tenner for five.

Battery wise the 1100mah are better value than 680mah and seem to work better with the more current demanding bvc 2,1 ohm coil.

Lots of choices regards e liquid-the fruit ones are very enjoyable (peach/apple/strawberry) nicotine levels are personal preference-18mg suits me.

Its a nicotine delivery system, not a smoking cessation device!!! It lets you get your nicotine fix with vastly reduced harm.

Try typing vape into amazon-lots of choice and variable prices. A spare battery is always a good idea to keep you off the tobacco.

The price of cigs just now is £8 a pack!!!!!! vaping costs a fraction and reduces the harm your doing-win win!!!!

Ever thought of upgrading, Tony? A nice DNA mod (http://focalecig.com/groupbuy/HANAA-MODZ-Pack-DNA-30-StyleModblack-19557) with a Taifun GT, (http://myepack.co.uk/rba-rda/taifun-gt-clone.html) then you could rewire and rewick it yourself. David,

I too must thank you for the recommendation. I ordered the Menthol and its excellent. This will be my new staple liquid. The flavour is perfect, you can select your preferred PG/VG ratio and the price is a bargain!

I've been on E-ciggs since Sept last year after rolling my own Golden Virginia from the age of 16, some 37 years ago. I tried everything going to give up, but just couldn't do it. I fully accept that e-ciggs are not harmless, but anything is better than stinkies!

Many thanks for that. I have moved away from the wick systems towards the coils, just tastes better and smokes easier. I read your thread on mixing your own juice-may well give this a try. How do you get your mixes correct, is it syringes and measuring viles? In the back of my mind the thought of getting it wrong and poisoning myself is ever present.

I am using the VIP thingies and a high strength nicotine cartridge.

It took me a while to get used to having a puff without smelling like an ashtray and at first that is exactly what I missed LOL

I bought a starter kit and a pack of cartridges and now on the last one. The one thing that has infuriated me using the VIP system is not knowing how much charge is in the battery and secondly, how much liquid is left in the cartridge. That means while I am out and about either the battery goes flat or I run out of juice in the cartridge which is OK if I have a full one in my pocket, but a couple of times had to buy real ciggies in an emergency

For the price of a packet of VIP refills I suppose I could buy a new device that has a clear tank so at least I can see how much liquid is left. Had a look on ebay and baffled by the terminology of all the bits and pieces that make up a shisha

Was looking for a simple starter kit with nicotine instead of the zero liquid, cos I still worship the goddess Nicotine :youtheman:

Tony.

I use syringes and a mixing calculator. Can be a bit daunting at first, but once you see somebody doing it, it's just like making a cup of coffee.

There has been reports of people drinking 72mg of nicotine and the only adverse effects have been a sore tummy, so I think it highly unlikely you'd poison yourself.

And Tony, it's vaping, NOT smoking. ;)

Excellent.

Keep them in a drawer or dark cupboard for a week or more and shake occasionally.

Makes all the difference to the flavour the longer they steep, apart from menthol, which is vapeable straight away.

I'd strongly advise against using e-bay, Frank.

Have a look at a trusted seller like Myepack. (http://myepack.co.uk/kits.html) Ideally, you should have at least two batteries.

For e-juice take a look at JoosJuice. (https://www.joosejuice.co.uk/shop/article_Black%2520Gold0001.001/30ml-Black-Gold-E-Liquid.html?sessid=YwyidPD6YNq1CM4cfI0zqM4ARMkpBp6 kieH0zPR7SHU0w8L9ktVzlWULuTVoX9v7&shop_param=cid%3D26%26aid%3DBlack%2520Gold0001.001 %26) If you still crave the tobacco taste, the one linked to comes highly recommended.

Remember to use the code, AAEC12 and you'll receive two bottles for the price of one, and also 12% discount. That works out at less than £10.00 delivered and should last at least a month.

If you go down this route, order 24mg of nicotine and 70/30 PG/VG.

If you are near Beacon, Camborne, I'd recommend going along to the vape shop there.

Thanks for the recommendations David.

I agree that ebay isn't the best place to buy vaping kit, but the other online dealers I have looked at are selling the exact same sishas for a lot more money.

I will however avoid ebay for any of the liquids as "ebay rules" apparently prohibit selling juices containing nicotine, yet I see juices for sale with the strengths in MG quoted for what is supposed to be zero nicotine

Sadly, Camborne is a fair old trek away from where I live and don't travel much down that way these days.

I'd still recommend refillable tanks

I started with this starter kit:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00GRIFRUM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

But you soon realise that there are better tanks available and the above item does not allow you to replace the heating coils so you just throw it away once the coil stops working, and the coils don't last very long. I still use the batteries included with this kit though

I now have the following tanks: Kanger ProTank Mini 3, Kanger EVOD Glass and a Kanger Protank 3... although the cheapest one was the EVOD I actually prefer it to the others, though the Protank 3 holds loads of e-liquid...

All my tanks are glass, which is important, as some e-liquids can react with polycarbonate tanks

Bought two 30ml bottles of Blueberry and used the discount code from Joose Juice. Good price and quick delivery so very pleased. Bit miffed though the mix needs to "mature" for a week or two but it's not bad now after around 4 days. Still don't understand what the heck the PG VG thing is, so bought a 50/50 whatever that means.

Dug 2 old VIP tips out of the bin and topped them up as well. Missus asked me what I want for xmas so asked for a good quality shisha pipe and bought a cheap and nasty one off ebay which will do me until xmas - if it lasts that long. Skinny little thing and the battery from the VIP doesn't fit worse luck, but as least with a clear tank I can see how much liquid is left, whereas the VIP used to run aground at the most inconvenient moment.

I smoked from the age of 19 to 27. I tried to stop a number of times with 3 months being the longest. I smoked about 30 a day. When I became unemployed I found it a bit expensive so switched to rollies. I just got the hang of rolling them when I decided to pack in as I was tired of feeling like a dustbin. Through will power and actually wanting to give up I managed to stop. It was difficult for the first 3 weeks, but after that I managed ok. And that was 30 years ago.

The help that is available now to stop smoking does at times seems a bit over the top. As James has said you actually have to want to stop - and some people simply don't. I don't really see the point in replacing one crutch with another. But, everyone's different.

Indeed, but I think the point is that there are 1000s of poisons contained inside real cigarettes, which electronic ones are blissfully free from, especially when you make your own ‘juice'.

Therefore, that alone, regardless of anything else, is as good a reason as any to make the switch (if you are hooked on nicotine), not to mention the thousands of pounds, if you were a heavy smoker (and didn’t use roll-ups), you can also save in the process! ;)

Don't know but my mrs can vaporize a joint with just an oven

I assume SWMBO doesn't read your post's? Or are you really brave and don't mind pain, if I made joke about her cooking I'd starve.

Also learned that there is quite a bit of science to this vamping lark, me I stopped cold turkey 20 years ago when a new car called and needed the money, being doon the pit 10+ hours a day helped though, no smoking there.

Ah vaping, saved me from stinkies. I've tried most avenues including mechanical mods and rebuildable atomisers.
In the end I've settled on a Vamo and Digbys e liquid.

Lovely flavours and plenty of them.

Can you get Vimto or Dandelion and Burdock?

I have found a dandelion and burdock flavour by Mrs B's E Liquid. Not tried yet but their other flavours are very good usually.

I've gone fairly high end on the vaping front after chuffing my way through all the duty free baccy I fetched back from a recent trip stateside.

For the last few weeks I've been combining an eleaf istick 30w battery (oled display and variable voltage) with a mini nautilus tank to very good effect. I run the battery at about 11w and it lasts for about 3 days between charges.

I've been buying homebrew juice from a local vape shop who took great pride in showing me their test lab certificates and analysis. It's much better than the over the counter stuff from corner shops and garages, some of that stuff is quite nasty.

Flavourwise I've enjoyed cappuccino, forest fruits but as my cig of choice was a menthol tipped rollup I find his diy extra mint very pleasant.

Healthwise I'm breathing better, have more energy and even sleep better. I know the jurys still out on the risks but it feels much better than the baccy did.

You do get what you pay for with this vaping lark and I also think theres a bit of psychology involved as well. If you've spent good money on proper kit it would be wasted going back to analogue lol.

I'm still refilling the vip cigs. The £10 bottle of juice is still going strong after 2 months, so not costing me much...

Vamo V5 and a Genitank Mega here Richard.

The old shinyitis hit and off I went. Spent a small fortune in a small space of time and came back to this as my favoured set-up.

Just treated myself to a Aspire sub ohm started kit. At nearly £50 it aint cheap but boy oh boy- is it a quantum leap on from the aspire/bvc tank and variable power battery that was my mainstay. The taste and quality of draw is another league. Well worth an upgrade if you vape alot.

Grant,
Same liquid you are using just now-you just fill the glass tank with whatever flavour you fancy. I was sceptical about the more expensive kit but the Aspire stuff has proved really reliable. Its terrific..

I was given orders by my G.P. to try smoking as I have Spastic Colon.
The trouble was I started enjoying it and soon progressed from my prescribed 'two a day'.
Then e-cigs came out and now I can calm my colon with nicotine, without the tar.
Of course the battery has to be blue!
The diffuser and mouth piece has to be blue too.

My favourite flavour is 'Vampire'!

Wassup. Just blown yer socks off with a big nicotine hit?

I bought a basic E Cigarette thingy the other day. Tried it a couple of times. Seems to do the job.

The main benefits I suppose are not polluting your system with carbon monoxide and keeping the tar and other crap from your lungs.

The carbon monoxide is the thing that saps your strength. It stops you processing oxygen properly, so you tire easily. Depends on how much you smoke I suppose.

Yup. it really processes the juice and if you take a biggish pull it pretty much gives you a fag all at once lol. This thing is seriously powerful, but it is getting the best out of the juice as well. you dont need as much overall. think I will use it in the house and just take the normal e gig when out as this thing is quite big and heavy...puts out 30/40 watts at a time

Why is it that smoking a cigarette, despite the health issues, looks cool - whereas 'vaping' just looks naff?

Probably a similar analogy to the vinyl vs. digital thing. Which is coolest? :)

My dad's trying to quit smoking (has been smoking for more than 30 years) and I've read that after such a long period it's more harmful than to keep smoking, actually. So I'm thinking about buying him a vape. Imagine an old man with a modern classy thing :D Glad I found this topic cause I need some help. I use vapingdaily.com (https://vapingdaily.com/) (sorry for the link, just want to show what kind of site I'm looking at) as a guide for further googling, it takes a lot of time and I'm a bit confused, so maybe someone could give me a hand? I mean, which model you like the most, what are the pitfalls, what should I pay attention to etc etc.
