So up for sale we have my Cambridge Audio Dacmagic Azur

Generally in very good condition (photos don't really do it justice tbh), no signification scratches or knocks or dings anywhere, its happily been sitting in my rack for about 2.5 years providing a faultless service. Comes complete with a high quality Maplin power supply (which was £20 alone) instead of the original wall wart. I was told this improves the sound slightly though I can’t actually vouch for this as I've never tried it with the standard wall wart supply (which is not included in this sale as I can’t find it). I have the original box and packaging so postage is no problem.

The Dacmagic Azur has a stack of connection options (all can be seen in the rear photos) including USB and several sound filter modes as well. At the time of its release it received glowing reviews everywhere ( it retailed for about £220 new I think). I have recently changed to an Arcam rdac which has not massively improved things (to my ears anyway) but I just fancied a change and like the rDacs silver casework as well:lol:

I've seen a few of these go on ebay for around high £130's recently excluding the improved power supply (and postage fees of course) So how about £125 inc fully insured postage to standard UK addresses?

The DacMagic features ATF(Adaptive Time Filtering), an up-sampling process developed in
conjunction with Anagram Technologies of Switzerland to intelligently interpolate incoming audio data (of between 16-24 bits, 32-96kHz) to 24bit/192kHz through the use of a 32bit Texas Instruments DSP (Digital Signal Processor). The ATF system applies sophisticated polynomial curve-fitting interpolation to create the extra data points and incorporates a time domain model which adaptively generates the new data in the temporal domain, dramatically reducing digital jitter, even that present in the input audio.

As with our high-end CD players, our proprietary Dual Differential Virtual Earth Balanced filter topology is used, configured as a low-order two pole linear-phase Bessel filter to take advantage of the high sampling rate achieved. Two very high quality Wolfson WM8740 24bit DAC ICs are used in dual differential mode. Since each channel has its own DAC to process information, completely separate and symmetrical analog filter circuitry can be implemented. These allow both left- and right-channel circuitry to operate identically, ensuring the DacMagic delivers fantastic sound-staging and stereoimaging properties.

Two digital inputs are fitted (both featuring S/P DIF and TOSLINK) and allow a wide range of digital sources to be connected. In addition, a USB input enables the DacMagic to be connected to a PC and act as a very high quality DAC/Soundcard, offering genuine HiFi-quality playback from your desktop, media PC, etc. A digital output is fitted which passes through the selected digital source for recording purposes (no up-sampling performed).

THANKS FOR LOOKING:)

Oooh! Oh dear. This could be exactly the sort of thing I was thinking about adding to my system at some point. Hmmm.:hmm:

:interesting:. I would want to put this between a Pioneer stable platter CDP and a WAD valve amp (I'm not at home so can't remember exact models). Any reason why this lovely looking DAC wouldn't sit happily between these two?

Not that I am aware of. It's sat happily between my pc and valve amp and between my blue ray player (used for cds and films) and valve amp.

What I really need is a phono stage, but I've always wanted a DAC to see what all the fuss was about. So, go on then. PM on its way!
