hi all,
i have been using a shure m75ed type 2 cartridge for a while now, previously i used an at95e with a new stylus (jico).
i like the sound of the shure better than the at95e,more warmer, anyway i thought id put the at95 back on to try again,
the first thing i noticed was that to get the same sound level the volume knob is almost doubled, and doesn't seem to have much effect in small increments, putting the old shure back on the difference is night and day.

i wonder if the cartridge on the at95e is knackered? anything else it could be? turntable by the way is an old sansui sr-212.
cheers.
j.

The AT has a lower output voltage than the Shure, 3.5mV vs 5mV

what is the advantage/disavantage of using a higher mv cartridge? does the higher number make it better?
sorry if its a stupid question im new to this :)

It's not an indication of one cartridge being better than the other, in simple terms it affects how much you must turn the volume control to get the same sound output level from the 'speakers. There are various technical factors around this but this is what it ultimately boils down to.
