First the rejuvenated Sansui goes bankrupt. And now this. I always said it was a big mistake to change their logo.

have to agree with the comment about logo change.
the old one had class, the new one looked dated as soon as it appeared...gave a whiff of chocolate bar or maybe shampoo!!!

Yeah... the logo was pants. lol..

But in recent times the Pioneer chocolate bar had nice coating but they were generally full of air.... er, Air Studios. The signs were there, I mean, come on... Air Studios has tweeked my cd player?... Ooooh!, handbags.. lol - give me a break.

All eyes to Denon then... Hope they don't throw the towel in too.

And glad to see folk agree about the logo. I thought it was just me. Classy to shampoo about sums it up. You don't see SONY going all italic and lower case.

I too agree on the logo, the tuning fork inside an ohm symbol was very distinctive.

A shame but they've been stripping back for years, shutting down the plasma screen factory etc... I mean, the last decent amp they made was the VSA-AX10i back in '01.

I have a Pioneer PD50 SACD/CD player tweaked by AIR studios and it's very, very good, especially with SACD. I think AIR studios may have pumped some nitrogen into it as well. :eyebrows:

I think the Technics one will be short lived and Sony well they have been struggling for so long I would not be surprised one day to read of their demise.

Oh for sure, I'm sure it's superb. I wasn't getting at Air Studios (or your cd player) but more the tenuous link with Pioneer. Pioneer were once 'world beaters' when it came to cd players (in fact Pioneers) and 'that's a fact' but they simply didn't need to endorse/feature another company to shift units. To me that just didn't feel right.

My favorite Pioneer cdp was the PD-91 and 93.

We still run a Pioneer A757 amp and PD7700 stable platter CD player. Superb both. I mocked them to start with, having been properly edificated in the merits of the Brit hi-fi and taught to mock the Japanese stuff. Very wrong indeed, superbly build and sound terrific.

If it's something your thinking about, Martin then I suggest you collect the cdp and NOT have it kicked about.. er I mean delivered. The lasers are very fragile indeed because the lens can drop out.

And the shrapnel in it's upper leg often gives gip. ;)

I wonder that in the years to come there will be any of the big companies like Pioneer producing hi-fi? :)
